Boys Soccer: Potomac Falls Grad Shanosky Called into U.S. U-20 National Team

Washington D.C. (Nov. 8, 2010) - D.C. United announced today that midfielder Conor Shanosky, who graduated from Potomac Falls High School in June, has been called into the United States U-20 side to take part in the Torneo de las Americas in Kennesaw, Ga.

Shanosky will report for National Team camp on Nov. 21, with the U.S. set to face Colombia on Nov. 26 and Mexico on Nov. 28 in the three-team round robin tournament. All matches will be played at the Kennesaw State Soccer Stadium. On Aug. 16, Shanosky became the third player to make the jump from D.C. United’s Academy to the senior squad, following midfielder Andy Najar and goalkeeper Bill Hamid.

Shanosky has earned a regular place in Thomas Rongen’s U.S. U-20 side, most recently featuring in the Cuadrangular Internacional in Arequipa, Peru against the likes of Paraguay, Colombia, and the host nation in September.

Earlier this year Shanosky represented his country at the 2010 Milk Cup in Northern Ireland. The United States defeated Northern Ireland in this prestigious competition, with Shanosky starting the first two matches of the tournament against China and Norway. In the Milk Cup final, Shanosky came on as a substitute and made his impact felt in the United States’ triumph.

A native of Sterling, Shanosky played for Potomac Falls through his junior year while rising quickly through United’s Academy ranks since joining the club in early 2009. During his noteworthy high school career with Potomac Falls, Shanosky acquired numerous accolades including 2009 All-State, All-Region, and All-District honors.

The gritty player has featured as a defensive midfielder and central defender for the Black-and-Red. He has been training with United’s first team since joining the squad, bolstering the club’s roster in practice scenarios. Shanosky was not eligible for first team competition in 2010, but he will be able to play for the Black-and-Red in MLS competition in 2011.
