Stone Bridge junior Cori Prince and senior Maggie Soshnik-Schierling Postgame after a 60-36 victory over Langley Monday night

Ashburn (Jan. 5, 2009) - The Stone Bridge High School girls basketball team got off to a slow start Monday night, trailing Langley 9-1 to start the contest, but the Bulldogs out-scored the Saxons, 21-10 in the second quarter and then 20-3 in the third quarter to run away with a 60-36 AAA Liberty District win.
Stone Bridge improves to 2-0 in district play and 8-1 overall, one of the best starts since the Mike Benson era at the school.
"They needed to believe that the could beat a good team," said second-year Bulldog head coach Chris Jones.
Stone Bridge's win was a total team effort with 10 players scoring and eight Bulldogs scoring four or more points. Junior Cori Prince led the way with 13 points including three 3-pointers to go along with five assists and four rebounds, and senior Maggie Soshnik-Schierling scored 11.
The Bulldogs shot 50 percent from the floor, 21 of 42, and went 79 percent from the foul line, 15 of 19.
Langley had two 3-pointers in the first quarter and another in the second quarter but didn't hit from behond the arc in the second half and the Bulldogs were able to break Langley's fullcourt pressure and convert layins. Stone Bridge also showed good patience on the offensive end in the second half and worked the ball around for high percentage shots.
