(Jan. 12, 2010) - Midway through the high school swim season in Loudoun and the Broad Run boys and Briar Woods girls have emerged as the teams to beat.
The Falcon girls are 3-0 in Dulles District duals and will swim against unbeaten Potomac Falls (4-0) at Claude Moore this Friday at 5:30 p.m. but a glimpse of the VivaLoudoun.com Top Swim Times charts shows Briar Woods with the fastest swimmers to date in eight of 11 events.
Over the weekend, in a 176-109 win over previously unbeaten Freedom, the Falcons swam six of the area's top times of the season with Alli Haufler leading the charge as she swam area bests of 2:02.06 in the 200 free and 59.01 in the 100 fly while helping BW relay teams to top marks in the 200 medley (1:57.21) and 400 free (3:57.77).
Also for BW, Caleigh Hensley and Kristin Haufler swam the area's top two 100 free's with a 56.29 and 56.63. Elise Guessford turned in a 5:26.63 in the 500 free, good enough for the top spot ahead of Dominion's Jalyn Marks, who swam 5:29.62 against Park View this weekend.
In other girls swim action: Potomac Falls beat Broad Run, 189-95; Dominion dispatched Park View, 212-63; and George Mason beat Loudoun County, 150-136. The Group A Mustangs (normally in the Bull Run District) are swimming officially in the AA Dulles District this season.
On the boy side, Broad Run is the only unbeaten at 4-0 and the Spartans had a good meet with Potomac Falls, winning 166-120, and Mark Sarman setting two area top times -- 1:59.29 in the 200 IM and 52.21 in the 100 fly as well as helping the BR relay to an area best 1:34.03 in the 200 free.
The Freedom boys edged Briar Woods, 136-125, but that didn't stop Falcon Nick Mason from turning in an area top 49.79 in the 100 free. Nick Campbell for the Eagles went 58.59 in the 100 back for the best swim of the season.
In other boys action, Loudoun County edged GM, 148-137, and Dominion took Park View, 204-82.
