Gymnastics: Freedom Captures 7-Team Meet at Heritage; LC's Drews Wins All-Around

Leesburg (Dec. 11, 2009) - Heritage High School opened its 2009-10 gymnastics season Thursday night ... and held Senior Night at the same time! Such is the abbreviated gymnastics season as the Pride will compete in its final eight events on the road so Thursday had to suffice as a season opener, home opener and home finale all in one.

The seven-team meet featured a mix of AA Dulles District (Briar Woods, Dominion, Freedom, Loudoun County) and AAA Cedar Run District (Heritage, Osbourn, Stonewall Jackson) squads with Freedom winning the meet with 121.575 points, just over three points ahead of defending Dulles District champion Loudoun County (118.300). Briar Woods (110.550) and Dominion (110.000) fought over a fraction for third place.

Raider Jess Drews took the All-Around with a 34.900 that included firsts on the beam (9.150) and floor (8.800), second on the bars (8.450) and a tie for third on vault (8.500). Osbourn's Katie Ervin won the vault with a 9.000 and Raider Christina Thoppil won the bars at 8.500.
