Boys Basketball: More Fallout from Potomac Falls, 111-108, Triple OT Win Over Stone Bridge Last Week

(Dec. 15, 2009) - Potomac Falls coach Jeff Hawes called it one of the best high school basketball games he has ever been associated with. It was a triple overtime thriller won by the Panthers over Stone Bridge on Friday. A game that featured not one, not two, but three buzzer beaters and if it wasn't for the last buzzer beater by record setter Lukas Mihailovich, the two teams would have headed to a fourth overtime.

While Stone Bridge had Mihailovich for 51 points in their book, the Panthers have him for 50 points (the game was played at Park View so there wasn't a home book necessarily). Either way it is a school record for the junior

Here are Hawes' notes from the game:

*Potomac Falls had a 5-point lead in regulation with 14 seconds but the Bulldogs got a 3-pointer and then Richie Berry hit a one-handed runner in the lane at the buzzer to send it into OT.
*In the first OT, the Panthers trailed by as much as seven with 1:40 left and needed a furious run sent it to double OT.
*In double OT, PF had pretty good control but at the buzzer, Stone Bridge senior James Wells banked in a 3-pointer from about 25 feet at the buzzer. Wells hit a shot just inside halfcourt to beat the third quarter buzzer in a game earlier in the week against Broad Run.
*In triple OT, Stone Bridge took a quick 5-point lead. PF battles back and was in pretty good control until SB's Mike Hamrick was fouled while shooting a 3-pointer with 4 seconds left. He made the first and PF called timeout to ice him. But Hamrick calmly makes the next two shots to tie the game at 108. PF inbounds ball to Mihailovich who takes two dribbles and lets it go from five feet behind halfcourt - count it off the backboard and a 111-108 win.
