Youth Sports - Gymnastics - APEX Shines in Baltimore

(Dec. 28, 2009) - The The APEX level 5 girls gymnastics team finished fourth in a strong field at the COTC meet in Baltimore on December 11–13. The Loudoun-based squad was the top team from Virginia.

In addition the APEX Level 7 team finished 7th. Special congratulations go out to event champions Kathrin Shamenko (beam), Jenna Haran (beam), Julia Ames (beam) Cassidy Gagnon (bars), Madison Hertel (beam) and Caitie Reyes (vault). Also to the following gymnasts who have now qualified: Abby Reid, Sydney Suter, Alex Donahue, Sharon Gilbertson and River Stone.

The Apex Boys Team had another terrific showing at their December competition at the Baltimore-Washington Invitational. The Level 5 team took 1st place. The Level 4 Team took 4th place. And the Optional Boys (levels 8-10) took 3rd place. Congratulations boys! Congratulations also go to our first place all-around and event finishers: Chase C. – 1st AA, Floor, P-Bars, and High Bar; Scott C. — 1st Pommel Horse; Callan C. – 1st AA, Floor, and Rings; Aaron M. – 1st Floor; and Chester D. – 1st Vault and High Bar.
