Girls Basketball: No. 11 Freedom Stops No. 16 Stonewall Jackson on the Road

Manassas (Dec. 9, 2009) - Dionna Scott scored 26 points and Kelsey Buchanan nearly had a triple-double with 17 points, 17 rebounds and eight blocks as Freedom High School, ranked No. 11 in the D.C. Metro area by the Washington Post, went on the road Tuesday and stopped No. 16 Stonewall Jackson, 70-59.

Scott finished with seven rebounds and four steals. Also for Freedom: Alexis Mayo had eight points and Jessica Escorza hit for six points in addition to six assists and seven rebounds. Both guards were were extremely effective defensively on one of the area's best guards.

Freedom (2-0) fought off a 7-0 run to start the second half to close out on the road. The Eagles led 22-13 after the first quarter but the Raiders came back and trailed just, 50-48, entering the final quarter.



Stonewall (3-1) was led by Joy Caracciolo who had 18 points and 15 rebounds and Kyani White scored 14 and Gwen Newsome added 13.
