Basketball: AA/AAA Challenge All-Tournament Teams

(Dec. 15, 2009) - The Potomac Falls High School girls basketball team defeated AAA foes Loudoun Valley and Stone Bridge last weekend to capture the AA/AAA Challenge Tournament.

The Loudoun Valley boys basketball team knocked off tournament hosts Park View and Potomac Falls on their home floors to win the boys side.

Coaches note: Raven had a great weekend, averaging 15.5 pts, 5 rebounds and 3 assists per game, while shooting 60% from the 3pt line. Against Stone Bridge, in game one, she hit two threes in back to back possessions to tie the game up and with some clutch FT shooting down the stretch in both games allowed us to go 2-0 on the weekend.

Coaches note: Kyle was selected by his teammates because of his insatiable work ethic, defensive mentality and rebounding ability. He is a leader in every sense of the word. Kyle averaged 5 ppg and 10 rebounds for the tournament and 3 assists.

PF coach Lynn Ewald: We played great defense, holding LV to 11 points through three quarters. LV made a strong push in the fourth quarter, but some clutch free throws by Raven Short and key rebounds by Jasmin Jeffries, kept them at bay. We were led by Short with 16 and Symone' Berry with 13. Also Jeffries led the way with 12 rebounds. It was a tremendous team effort to limit them to just 26 points. We moved to 3-1 on the season.

NEWS AND NOTES:
Loudoun Valley took their game on the road Friday night to Potomac Falls High School to face Park View in a AA/AAA match-up. After a slow start in the first quarter, the Lady Vikings found a second gear and turned up the speed against the Patriots, putting 19 points on the board in the second. Led by strong play from Chrystal Oden and Lisa Beksel, the Vikes were able to cruise through the remainder of the contest.
