Loudoun Valley Senior Earns High Marks in International Space Olympics

Carter Huffman, a senior at Loudoun Valley High School and the Loudoun Academy of Science, received the highest score among 45 foreign competitors on his project presentation on Sunday, October 18th, at the International Space Olympics in Moscow.


Huffman, accompanied by Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) Social Sciences Supervisor Bill Brazier, left America for the International Space Olympics on October 13th.

On Friday, October 16th, Huffman visited the Russian Mission Control Center in Korolev, Russia. He saw the giant screen for tracking satellites and talked with Russian cosmonauts about the cosmonauts' experiences in space. Huffman also talked to six astronauts aboard the international space station. As the only student representative from the United States, Huffman was given the honor of asking the first question of the astronauts.
