Golf: Loudoun Valley Ties for Third in AAA State Tournament

The Loudoun Valley High School golf team ended its spectacular 2009 season in a tie for third place in the AAA state tournament played at the Waterfront Country Club in Smith Mountain Lake on October 19-20.

Kellam High School from Virginia Beach won a one-hole playoff to edge the Vikings for the 3rd place trophy.

Westfield High School was the tournament winner with a two-day total of 617.

James Madison High School was second with a 628 and the Vikings and Kellam tied at 651. Battlefield High School and Deep Run High School finished in a tie for 5th, while Frank Cox High School and James River finished in a tie for 7th.

Battlefield’s Andrew Lister captured the individual championship with a two-day score of 148.

For Loudoun Valley, junior Tanner Welsh led the Vikings with a total of 161 for the two days. Scott Davidson had 163, Zack Bosse and Brian Hickey each had 166, Brandon Deleonardis posted a 168 and Colin Wallace finishing at 175.

The Vikings 3rd place tie was the highest finish of any Loudoun Valley team since their Championship team of 1994. The team concluded the year with a record of 86-8-1. Seniors competing in their final tournament were team captain Brian Hickey, Zack Bosse, Brandon Deleonardis and Colin Wallace.
