Update on Ryan Moody - 1,562 People Have Joined the "Get Well" Group on Facebook!

Friday Evening update on Ryan Moody, who has been the hospital for six days now after a car accident in the Tidewater area where he plays football at William and Mary. It says alot about the good-natured Stone Bridge High School grad that 1,562 people as of Saturday morning has joined the "Get Well Ryan Moody" facebook group! ...

Ryan had a so so day today. Still very tired and lethargic. He's sleeping allot and needs lots of rest. In time he will get better as he is strong willed and has a loving family and friends around him. We ask everyone to please respect his wishes to get strong before receiving any visitors. Gill, Janet, Julio and I very much appreciate all the continued prayers and thoughts for his speedy recovery. THANK YOU.



Thursday Evening update ...
Ryan is doing better with each passing day and with all the love and support that is out there for my son, I know he will make a full recovery. Thank You so much for all the prayers everyone has given Ryan, he has a long way to go and challenges to get through but he will over come.... I know he will he is strong. Heidi


Update Thursday morning on Ryan Moody from his family:


A very good night and morning for Ryan. He is responding well to all tests and commands by the medical staff. He has full function and movement in his hands, arms, legs, and feet (incl his football injured leg/ankle).

Ryan still has trouble focusing and has headaches and facial pain. As each hour passes though, he looks more like the Ryan we all know and love.

RYAN HAS REQUESTED THAT WE NOT INVITE VISITORS TO THE HOSPITAL.

Although he has been cleared for visitors, he’s just not ready to see anyone yet. We ask that you please respect his wishes - there will be plenty of time for everyone to visit as we go down the path to recovery.

We have determined that Ryan will remain in the Williamsburg area for follow up treatments over the next six weeks. Our family has arranged for at least one family member to stay here with Ryan. He will come back to Ashburn in December, and we hope that he will return to school in mid January.

FB has been a fabulous tool for communicating, but we understand that many want to send cards or personal messages. Jill Cheretis and Deorah Mokhiber are coordinating a collection on behalf of Stonebridge football and AYFL. If you’d like to send something for Ryan or the family, you can drop with Jill Cheretis this Saturday or Sunday 4-7pm, or on Monday morning 9-11am at 43103 Weatherwood Drive, Ashburn. Update Wednesday night on Ryan Moody
TONIGHT'S NEWS: Ryan's condition continues to improve. He is now able to open his eyes for short periods. The medical staff continues to monitor his physical status and do see improvement. The family's focus now will turn to Ryan's ability to cope with all of this mentally.

The next 24 hours will determine if they will bring Ryan home to Ashburn, or if he and the family will remain in Williamsburg for further treatment.

Gil told Ryan of the enormous outpouring of love and support from family and friends, old and new and shared some of your messages. Ryan indicated his understanding with a teary thumbs up to his dad... hard to read, hard to write. But know we are all searching for some level of understanding and connection.

Update Wednesday morning on Ryan Moody from his family:
UPDATE FROM NEWPORT NEWS: Ryan had another good night. He is looking great but is not awake to speak to us. He is very tired and we hope that he will be moved from critcal care to surgical recovery today. We are very relieved. Now our focus is on his mental state. Medical staff continues to stress - NO VISITORS OR CALLS PLEASE. The body requires a lot of rest to mend itself. We'll continue post updates for friends and family here. Update Tuesday night after Ryan Moody's surgery: 

Ryan just got out of surgery and it went well. He still has a long way to go but he is doing well. PLEASE KNOW THAT HE IS IN NO SHAPE TO RECEIVE VISITORS AT THIS TIME, SO PLEASE DO NOT COME TO THE HOSPITAL.... WE WILL LET EVERYONE KNOW WHEN HE CAN RECEIVE PHONE CALLS AND VISITORS.... Former Stone Bridge High School football player Ryan Moody's family has released more details about his significant injuries sustained in a car accident in the Hampton Roads area, where he plays football at William and Mary, over the weekend.

Moody, who was hospitalized earlier in the fall after injuring his ankle while playing football, was scheduled for facial repair surgery today, here is the update:

There are three specialists caring for Ryan - neurosurgeon, Otolaryngology or ENT (ear, nose and throat), and a trauma doctor). The following is a comprehensive list of Ryan’s injuries and prognoses.

Trauma doctor: From shoulders down to his football injured leg/ankle there is no “life threatening” injury or further damage. He is able to breathe on his own. Further x-rays and body scans will be conducted for possible hair line fractures after his surgery today.

Neurosurgeon: Ryan’s head sustained the most severe damage. Brain swelling and bleeding have been controlled enough to allow moving forward with facial repair surgery today. The diagnosis is severe concussion with cracked skull. This is not life threatening at this point, but will be monitored closely in the coming days. It has been determined that we could do more damage by operating, so no surgery is planned for now.

Otolaryngology or ENT (ear, nose and throat): Surgery today to repair his broken jaw, cheek bone and a bone around the eye socket. Unable to repair damage to the right ear and he may have hearing loss. Ryan’s jaw will be wired shut for 6-8 weeks, at a minimum. Ryan will be seen by additional doctors for injuries sustained to his teeth and eyes, and will ultimately see a plastic surgeon after he is released from the hospital.
