Football: Briar Woods LB Matt Rolin Recognized for Under Armour All-American Game Selection at Falcons Homecoming Rally

(Oct. 5, 2012) - Matt Rolin, the defensive catalyst that has sparked Briar Woods High School to back-to-back VHSL Division 4 state championships, a 33-3 record since his sophomore season and a current 20-game winning streak, was recognized this morning at the school's Homecoming rally for his selection to the 2013 Under Armour All-American Game.

Rolin, a 6-foot-4 linebacker and tight end, has committed to play next year at the University of South Carolina. First, he is spearheading the Falcons (6-0 overall, 4-0 in Dulles District) march towards a third straight state title.

You Pick'Em Football Results:Week 6 Sent Many Fans Into a Tailspin but JAGMan Wins the Week!

(Oct. 3, 2012) - And we thought last week was hard when only two out of 153 fans went 10-0 ... this past week we didn't have any fans -- or LoCo Media -- go 10-0.

With 156 fans playing, 10 went 9-1: BW Wrestling, Coach 19, Hammied, JAGman, JMaffe, Larry, Pac23, Swift30, WVU FB and Xxpc ... and JAGman of Ashburn was nearly perfect on the tiebreaker, picking Briar Woods 35-7 over Tuscarora when the final score was 35-6.

JAGman will get a Viva Loudoun one-of-a-kind t-shirt as well as a gift certificate from Roosters Men's Grooming Center of Goose Creek Village, good for a free haircut or shave!

As for the season-long standings, Mtneer32 of Charles Town (54-6 record) saw their lead shrink to one game ahead of  Mr. Dubya of Sterling is 45-5. Two games back of Mr. Dubya is a trio: BWoods Champs 2010, TBreeden and WeaselVT.

Our fans are playing for an overall season prize of $100 to the winner (plus $100 to their favorite Loudoun high school) with second place netting $50 and third place $25.

News: Loudoun Museum's Annual Hauntings Tours Set for Oct. 26-27

Leesburg (Oct. 3, 2012) - Do you like a good ghost story? Then you don’t want to miss Loudoun Museum’s Annual Hauntings Tours. This year’s tours will take place Friday, Oct. 26 and Saturday, Oct. 27 in Historic Downtown Leesburg.

Tours are led through several homes and businesses, where costumed storytellers share the history and ghostly tales of each place. The spirited tours last 90 minutes to 2 hours and start every 15 minutes between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. Tours begin at the Leesburg Town Hall, located at 25 West Market Street.

Girls Soccer: Stone Bridge's Corinne Giroux to Play Next Year at William and Mary

(Oct. 3, 2012) - Stone Bridge High School senior Corinne Giroux has verbally committed to play women's soccer next year at William & Mary. On the club level, Giroux is a defender for FC Virginia.

Giroux is the 14th Stone Bridge athlete on our Class of 2013 College Choice Chart and 17 soccer players have already verbally committed from the class.

Competitive Cheer: Tuscarora Gets a Leg Up on 3-Time Defending State Champion Briar Woods

Sterling (Oct. 2, 2012) - Over the weekend the Tuscarora High School competitive cheer squad captured the 3-year-old program's first ever meet title by defeating AAA power Stone Bridge at the Cheers Sports Spirit Bowl. On Tuesday the Huskies shocked 3-time defending AA state champion Briar Woods and the rest of the Dulles District with a first place finish at the district's first mini meet at Dominion High School.

Tuesday's competition, coupled with another mini meet Oct. 10 at Woodgrove, will determine the seeding for the Oct. 24 Dulles District meet at Briar Woods. The Falcons are also the 3-time defending Dulles District and Region II champions.

On Tuesday it was Tuscarora scoring 242 points for the win with Briar Woods runner-up at 231.5 followed by Woodgrove (190). It was quite a one-year improvement for a Tuscarora team that was fifth last year in both min meets, scoring between 166 and 184 points.

Girls Volleyball: Stone Bridge SR Mariah Brantley Verbals to Lehigh University

(Oct. 2, 2012) - Stone Bridge High School senior Mariah Brantley has had quite a week as she helped her girls volleyball team defeat Loudoun County Monday night in a five-set showdown and just 48 hours earlier she gave her verbal commitment to play next year at Lehigh University.

Brantley, who plays libero on her Virginia Elite 18s club team, shared her good news with Lehigh before Mountain Hawks took the court Saturday at American University.

Stone Bridge now has 13 athletes from the Class of 2013 with their college choices made.

Purcellville (Oct. 2, 2012) - It was a big night at Loudoun Valley High School Friday as the Vikings inducted their latest Hall of Fame class and sophomore Andrew Cordani rushed for 227 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Vikings to a 43-14 Dulles District win over Heritage.

Purcellville (Oct. 2, 2012) - As a result of this morning's watermain break when there was a temporary loss of pressure, the Virginia Department of Health has advised that all Town water users boil water for drinking and consumption until bacteriological samples can be analyzed, which should be by mid-day Thursday, October 4. Girls Volleyball: Stone Bridge Rallies to Win at Loudoun County in Epic 5-Setter Between Elite Programs

Leesburg (Oct. 2, 2012) – Loudoun County welcomed Stone Bridge Monday night in a dream match-up of two undefeated girls volleyball teams and the sizeable crowd that turned out was not disappointed as they were treated to an entertaining well-played five-set match captured by the AAA Bulldogs as they rallied from a 2-set deficit to beat the host AA Raiders.

Stone Bridge (14-0 overall) not only came back from the 2-set hole but trailed 6-1 in the fifth set before nipping Loudoun County (10-1) for the 18-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-22, 15-13 win.

“I just aged 10 years,” joked Stone Bridge coach Jill Raschiatore after the match that pitted two of the top teams, not only in Loudoun, but in all of Virginia with Loudoun County having won four straight AA state title (2007-10) before falling in last year’s state semifinals and Stone Bridge having advanced to the AAA state Final Four the past two years.

The fifth set was a snapshot of the entire evening as Loudoun County, which came into the match having won 30 of 31 sets played, jumped out to a quick lead behind booming senior outside hitter Taylor Huewe (team-high 20 kills) but saw Stone Bridge scratch its way back into the match with senior outside hitter Ryan Ackermann (match-high 26 kills, 20 digs) catching fire with five straight kills and then a block to put the Bulldogs up 10-7.

News: Here Comes the Pitch ... and It's a Change-Up! Proposed Loudoun Hounds Stadium Moves from Kincora Project to One Loudoun

(Oct. 1, 2012) - The Loudoun Hounds, a proposed minor league baseball team that had hoped to be playing ball by 2011, may have found a home after it was announced today that their future stadium would not be built in the Kincora Project as originally planned but will now be part of the nearby One Loudoun development in Ashburn. First pitch is now planned for 2014.

College Corner: 2009 Briar Woods Grad Krysta Gardner is Candidate for National Senior CLASS Award

(Sept 28, 2012) - 2009 Briar Woods High School grad Krysta Gardner, a senior at NCAA Division I Bethune-Cookman, has been selected as a candidate for the 2012 Senior CLASS Collegiate Volleyball Award.  Gardner is 1 out of 30 student-athletes across the nation selected.  An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student athlete and encourages students to use their platform to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. The Winner will be announced at the Volleyball Championship on December 13-15. 

Krysta is a Pyschology Major. She plans on attending graduate school to focus on Child Development. The College Corner wishes you all the best. Read more
