News: Loudoun Board of Supervisors Adopts Fiscal Year 2014 Budget of $1.8 Billion

(April 4, 2013) - The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors has approved a budget totaling approximately $1.8 billion for the general county government and school system for Fiscal Year 2014 (FY 14).

On April 3, 2013, the Board set the real property tax rate at $1.205 per $100 in assessed value, a decrease of 3 cents, or 2.4 percent, from Fiscal Year 2013. The newly adopted tax rate will reduce the average homeowner property taxes in Loudoun County approximately $69 a year, based on the current average home value of $405,977. The personal property tax rate remains unchanged at $4.20 per $100.

News: Special Prosecutor Appointed to Investigate Complaint Against Supervisor Delgaudio

(Nov. 9, 2012) - Loudoun Commonwealth's Attorney Jim Plowman requested the Circuit Court on Thursday to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate a complaint made by a former legislative aide to Loudoun County Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio.

The request was based on additional material provided to the Commonwealth's Attorney by the County Attorney that had not previously been reviewed. The Court appointed Theophani Stamos, the Commonwealth'™s Attorney for Arlington County, who has agreed to undertake the assignment.

News: School Board, Looking to Trim $22 Million from Proposed Budget, to Hold Budget Work Sessions

(April 10, 2012) - The Loudoun County School Board, looking to trim $22 million from next year's budget after the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors adopted a county-wide budget last week that features a 5-cent decrease in the current property tax rate, has scheduled five budget work sessions in April. Only the April 17 session will be open to public comment.

(March 13, 2012) - The "Action Summary Report" from the Loudoun Board of Supervisor's business meeting on March 6th and 7th has been posted at http://chairmanyork.wordpress.com. Budget:
As of our March 12th budget worksession, the proposed FY 13 budget tax rate stands at a $1.21. Besides approving the funding to open Gum Springs Library, we also approved a few enhancements for the Sheriff's office. Sheriff Chapman is to be congratulated for his good work as he and his team came to the meeting last night with proposed savings from both the FY 12 and FY 13 budgets that totaled $450,000. The last real major discussion for the Board will center on the Funding for the schools. As of now, there is a differential of $44 million between the School Board adopted budget and where the Board of Supervisors currently stands with its work on the budget. We will be meeting with the School Board on the 21st to discuss both their Operating Budget and Capital Improvement Program (CIP). For refernece, the current tax rate is at a $1.285.

News: Briar Woods Cheer, Football and Softball Teams to be Honored by Board of Supervisors for State Titles

(March 2, 2012) - It may be easier to honor the athletes at Briar Woods High School that have not won a state title in the past year but at the March 6 Loudoun County Board of Supervisors meeting the Falcons competitive cheer, football and softball teams will all be honored for bring home VHSL state titles in 2011.

News: County Shuts Door on OpenBand

(Nov. 2, 2011) - The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors has voted to deny an Open Video Systems (OVS) Franchise agreement to OpenBand Multimedia.

In September, the Board voted to add a two-week termination clause and a reduction in the term length from 12 years to four. OpenBand rejected those terms and has not negotiated with the county since then.
