(March 2, 2012) - It may be easier to honor the athletes at Briar Woods High School that have not won a state title in the past year but at the March 6 Loudoun County Board of Supervisors meeting the Falcons competitive cheer, football and softball teams will all be honored for bring home VHSL state titles in 2011.
The meeting starts at 5 p.m. Here are the three ceremonial resoultions:

Girls Soccer: Spartans Five State Championship Teams Honored
(Jan. 10, 2012) - Broad Run High School honored its five girls soccer state championship teams -- including a current run of four straight VHSL AA state titles -- at halftime of the boys basketball game on Friday night. On hand were players and coaches from all five state championship teams (2001, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011) to acknowledge a record-tying performance by a Loudoun County high school athletic program (5 state championships: tying the state championships won by the Park View gymnastics teams from the 1980s).

12:01 - By the way, I am seated at the 50-yard-line next to Carl Lukat of the Loudoun Times-Mirror and the Washington Post down to the left has 5 (!!!) people covering the game ... if something happens to me ... VivaLoudoun is history! The Post has a back-up plan in case of injury! I expect Paul Tenorio will do the heavy lifting for the Post today as he knows SB real well.

11:52 - Stone Bridge dressed in their baby blue tops and navy blue pants bursts through their inflatable "Doghouse" tunnel, complete with smoke. Bulldog band in full uniform on the field and cheerleaders hold a massive banner for the boys to break through.

All-Time State Champion and Runner-ups in Loudoun History
(June 13, 2010) - The state titles brought home by the Broad Run and Stone Bridge high school girls soccer teams Saturday continued a trend as girls from Loudoun have now captured 43 of the total 59 state titles won.
Also, Broad Run now has 13 state titles, just two away from historic rival Park View, all-time leader with 15. Stone Bridge now has seven titles since opening a decade ago.
And between the winter -- Potomac Falls boys and Freedom girls won basketball titles -- the
"2010 decade" already has four total titles or one more than Loudoun teams won in the 1970s total. Of course, the 2010 athletes have a long way to go to catch up to the "2000 decade" which finished in the fall with a whopping 37.

All-Time State Titles Won by Loudoun Teams
(Mar. 18, 2010) - The state titles won by the Freedom High School girls and Potomac Falls boys in basketball on Saturday got the 2010 decade off to flying start for Loudoun schools. The two state titles is just one less than Loudoun schools won in the entire 1970s and continues a recent trend in which Loudoun school took home 37 state titles in the 2000s including a whopping 20 state title since 2007!

Loudoun: Home of the State Champions!
(Dec. 14, 2009) - Broad Run High School's VHSL Division 4 state football title Saturday crowned a banner fall for Loudoun schools as four state titles were brought home including Loudoun County and Loudoun Valley in volleyball and Briar Woods in competitive cheer.
As far as state titles goes, this is the golden age for Loudoun athletics as local schools have hauled home eight tiles in the past 12 months along and a whopping 37 since 2000. In the previous 30 years, a total of 18 titles were won.
Even if you take into account the expanding number of high schools in Loudoun -- Stone Bridge opening in 2000 was the county's fifth high school and there are now 10 total -- the athletes are still have greater success. In the 1980s, for example, there were four high school and eight total titles won or two per every school. In this decade, even if all 10 high schools had been opened since 2000, the average would be 3.7 or almost double.
In football alone there have been more state title appearances (5) and titles won (3) since 2005 than there were in the previous 35 years where there were four appearances and one title total.
