Volleyball: "The Skinny" Has All the Volleyball Action from Aug. 30

(Sept. 1, 2011) - The girls volleyball season may only be two matches old for each Heritage High School and Leesburg rival Loudoun County but that won't stop tonight's Dulles District meeting from being a big match.

Host Loudoun County is the 4-time defending AA state champion and Heritage is coming back to the Dulles District from AAA where the Pride made the state quarterfinals last year. Before leaving the Dulles for a 2-year visit to the Cedar Run District, Heritage and Loudoun County had a spirited rivalry with high-quality volleyball on the court and amazing fan support off the court. Expect no less tonight when they get underway around 7 p.m.

Loudoun County def. Loudoun Valley, 3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-17)
The Skinny: Loudoun County fought off a tough Loudoun Valley team Tuesday night as they welcomed the Vikings back to the Dulles District by handing them their first loss off the season. The Raiders extended their match winning streak to 26 with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-17) sweep over Loudoun Valley. The Lady Raiders were led by Maggie Phillips (12 kills, 2 digs, 1 block), Jordan Leiter (16 assists, 2 aces, 9 points, 1 block, 1 dig), Jenna Strange (5 kills, 8 digs, 12 points, 6 aces), Katrina Kirby (5 kills, 1 block, 1 dig), Nicole Orndorff (5 kills, 4 points, 3 aces, 2 digs), Taylor Huewe (3 blocks, 2 kills, 4 points, 1 ace), Kelsey Slack (8 points, 8 digs, 2 aces), Gabby Serafin (9 digs, 1 kill), Megan Fox (7 assists, 3 points, 2 aces, 1 kill), Mandy Powers (4 assists, 4 points, 1 ace), Quinn O'Connell (1 assist, 1 dig). The Raiders improved to 2-0 on the season and 2-0 in the dulles district


The JV Raiders swept the Vikings 2-0 (25-14, 25-11), while the Freshmen also cruised to a victory 2-0 (25-13, 25-12).

Potomac Falls def. Dominion, 3-2 (25-19, 25-19, 22-25, 22-25, 15-8)
The Skinny: Panthers go to five to beat neighbor Titans. After Dominion battled back from a 2-0 deficit to force the fifth game, the Panthers were able to put it away with a 5-point service run for match point.

The Skinny: The Falcons handed Woodgrove its first loss of the season. After starting the fourth game behind 3-9, Woodgrove was able to rally and was ahead late in the game 22-18. However, Briar Woods gained the momentum and closed the game out. by two points.

The Skinny: The Eagles were led by Jasmine Jackson getting 10 kills while Kaitlyn LaMantia had 8 kills. Maryam Kaymanesh had 11 assists while Andrea Kirkpatrick had 12. The back row was led by Andrea Phung with 26 digs. The Eagles had strong serving for Jasmine Jackson with 8 aces while Andrea Phung had 5.
