Football: Broad Run Defense Gives Up a Score After 14 Straight Scoreless Quarters but Spartans Win Again to Improve to 4-0

(Sept. 19, 2011) - And they said AAA would be hard. Broad Run High School, which won 39 of 40 regular season football games in AA before moving up in classification this year, improved to 4-0 on the season with a 29-14 win at Forest Park Friday.

The Spartans will face Ashburn rival Stone Bridge (2-1)  Friday at 7:30 p.m. for the first time since 2004. The two schools, 2.3 miles apart, are a combined 83-4 since 2007 with Broad Run winning Region II and Division 4 state titles in 2008 and 2009 and finishing regional runner-up in 2010. Stone Bridge has won four straight Northern Region titles and captured the 2007 Division 5 state title, made the state semifinals in 2008, and finished runner-up in the state in 2009 and 2010.

The Spartans were up 29-0 Friday before allowing two fourth quarter touchdowns. Those were the first points scored against Broad Run since the first quarter of the season opener.


Derril Thomas missed 100 yards rushing by just two yards and scored on runs of 5 and 20 yards. Connor Jessop had another big game passing, going 18 of 26 for 215 yards and a 40-yard score to Dorian Jenkins, who had 114 yards receiving on six catches.
