Volleyball: Stone Bridge Takes the First Ever Battle of Ashburn with Wins Over Briar Woods and Broad Run

(Sept. 1, 2011) - The Stone Bridge High School girls volleyball team, returning after its best season ever in 2010 and a AAA state runner-up finish, opened the new season by capturing the Battle of Ashburn with wins over Ashburn rivals Briar Woods and Broad Run.

Stone Bridge defeated Broad Run in three sets by scores of 25-21, 25-23, 25-16 and then defeated Briar Woods in three sets by scores of 25-11, 25-13, 25-16.

Broad Run, also opening the season under the return of varsity coach Ellen Roberts, finished the night 1-1 as the Spartans were able to beat Briar Woods in four sets, 26-24, 22-25, 25-21, 25-19.
