Golf: Battlefield Wins Cedar Run District Tournament; Broad Run is Runner-up, Qualifying for Regionals for First Time in School History

(Sept. 16, 2011) - Battlefield High School captured the AAA Cedar Run District golf tournament Thursday at 1757 Club with a 299 team score and host Broad Run turned in a big back nine to finish runner-up at 320 and qualify for the Northwest Region tournament.

This will be Broad Run's first trip in school history to Regionals for golf.

Stonewall Jackson's Chad McCann was low medalist with a 71. He was two strokes better than a pair of Bobcats -- Thomas Fricke and P.J. Leonard at 73.

Sloan Meadows and Desiree Razon led Broad Run, each shooting 75. Razon's 75 came from the No. 6 position for the Spartans.

Freedom took third as a team with a 328. While the Eagles won't move on as a team, the trio of Billy Ferrell (74), Duncan Walter (80) and Phil McQuitty (85) qualified for Regionals.

Also making Regionals: Partiot High School's Terry Smith (80) and Jake Nordy (85).

Patriot, a first-year school in Nokesville, took fourth at 347 and Osbourn was fifth at 413. Stonewall did not field a full squad.
