(Sept. 20, 2011) - The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Tuesday voted to purchase land located at the National Conference Center in Lansdowne to be used for a new high school in Loudoun County, currently referred to as "HS-8."
The school will be built on a 45.61 acre site, to be purchased from Oxford Capital Group LLC, for $20 million. The school will serve students in the Ashburn and Lansdowne communities and is anticipated to open in the 2015-2016 school year. The parcel will be subdivided from the existing 112-acres of the National Conference Center.
The terms of purchase allow for a 120-day, due diligence period, which will allow the county to investigate any concerns about the site prior to final purchase.
Following the county’s purchase of the site, there will be a public process for the necessary zoning approvals, including a Special Exception, Commission Permit, and Zoning Concept Plan Amendment to allow for the construction of the high school and associated facilities.
The selection of the school site came after a lengthy public process, which included many community meetings. In approving the acquisition of the land Tuesday, the Board made it clear that there is a desire for continued community involvement during the planning and construction phases for the new school.
