Football: Broad Run with the Whitewash Over Briar Woods in the Battle for a Better Cause

Connor Jessop finds Jack Sistare for the Spartans first score Friday

(Sept. 3, 2011) - In the Battle for a Better Cause game Friday night between Ashburn rivals Broad Run and Briar Woods with fans on both sides in white to help raise funds for former Spartan football player Ryan Diviney, it was fittingly Diviney's old team Broad Run, the team in white Friday, applying the whitewash to Briar Woods for a 14-0 non-district win.

Broad Run senior quarterbck Connor Jessop threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Jack Sistare with 1:10 left in the first half and then ran in a 10-yard score as the third quarter ended for the game's only scores.

Briar Woods caught a tough break in the third quarter when they had the Spartans stopped after a risky passing attempt on 4th-and-5 from BR's own 15 but a 15-yard penalty kept the drive alive and later Jessop would score to make it 14-0 at the end of the 90-yard march.
