Volleyball: Saturday-Monday Scoreboard+Skinny - Briar Woods Upsets Broad Run in Five; Stone Bridge at Heritage in Big Match Tonight

(Oct. 5, 2010) - First the Briar Woods High School football team and now the Falcons volleyball team as Briar Woods upset second place Broad Run Monday in Dulles District volleyball three days after the Falcons football team ended Broad Run's 33-game winning streak.

Heritage swept a pair of non-district matches Saturday against Osbourn Park and Forest Park and will host Stone Bridge, a winner over Centreville Monday, Tonight at 7:15 p.m. in a match-up that features two of the top AAA teams in the area and state.

Loudoun County, the LoCo Elit 5's top-ranked team dropped a game to AAA Robinson Monday before the AA Raiders rallied for the win.

The Skinny: The Falcons, taking a page out of their football team's book, upset the Spartans in Dulles District play three days after the big football win. Natalie Deffer led the Briar Woods offense with 12 kills, followed by Keandra McCardell who had 9 kills. McCardell led the team with 8 blocks. Several Falcons racked up the service points, but the leader was Hanna Reed with 15, and she was followed by Deffer with 12 and also Hannah Baumer with 12. Deffer also dropped five aces. The Falcons defense was led by Shelby Harris, Alex Fierszt, and Deffer.

The Skinny: The Raiders improved their record to 12-1 and extend their winning streak to 8 matches. Leading the Raiders to victory was Jenna Strange (11 kills, 14 digs, 12 points, 7 aces, 6 blocks), Danielle Cullen (8 kills, 4 digs, 2 blocks, 2 points), Maggie Phillips (6 kills, 3 blocks, 3 digs), Taylor Huewe (5 kills, 5 blocks), Gabby Serafin (3 kills, 20 digs, 10 points, 5 aces), Rachel Roberts (7 blocks, 1 kill), Katrina Kirby (2 blocks, 1 kill), Colleen Bowlds (16 assists, 7 points, 6 digs), Jordan Leiter (12 assists, 3 digs, 2 kills, 2 points), Kathleen Horvath (12 digs, 13 points), Megan Fox (3 assists, 1 point). The Raiders return to action Tuesday as they host Park View High School in a return to Dulles District action.
