Volleyball: Broad Run Clinches Second Seed in Dulles with 5-Game Thriller Against Freedom

(Oct. 27, 2010) - Broad Run High School clinched the second seed for next week's Dulles District tournament with a hard-fought win over Freedom Tuesday night in five games, 21-25, 25-21, 25-23, 13-25, 15-13.

Loudoun County, the district's regular-season champion, remained unbeaten in district play with a sweep over Dominion, 25-20, 25-12, 25-9. Briar Woods, one game behind Freedom for the third seed, swept Tuscarora, 25-19, 25-8, 25-21. Potomac Falls, one game behind Briar Woods for the No. 4 seed, swept Woodgrove, 25-14, 30-28, 25-21.

Potomac Falls Sweeps Woodgrove
Panthers have hopes of catching Briar Woods for the No. 4 seed and homecourt advantage in the district quarterfinals. Briar Woods and Potomac Falls play Thursday and are likley quarterfinal opponents next week with a regional bid on the line.

Raiders Continue to Roll
Loudoun County improved its winning streak to 14 consecutive matches with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-9) sweep over Dominion on Tuesday night. The Raiders were led by Jenna Strange (7 kills, 11 digs, 3 points, 2 aces, 2 blocks), Sammy Dormio (5 kills, 14 points, 7 aces, 4 digs), Taylor Huewe (5 kills, 1 block, 1 dig), Maggie Phillips (4 kills), Katrina Kirby (3 kills, 3 blocks, 1 dig), Kathleen Horvath (3 kills, 9 digs, 11 points, 3 aces), Colleen Bowlds (19 assists, 13 points, 2 aces, 2 digs), Megan Fox (2 assists, 2 points, 1 dig), Jordan Leiter (1 assist), Gabby Serafin (5 digs, 8 points, 1 ace), Georgi Fox (1 kill, 1 block), Rachel Harrison (1 kill). The JV Raiders remained perfect with a 25-11, 25-12 sweep over the Titans of Dominion to improve to 16-0 on the season. The Freshmen Raiders also kept their unbeaten streak alive with a 25-16, 25-12 sweep over Dominion. The Raiders conclude their season with their final match versus Woodgrove at home on Thursday.

Briar Woods Sweeps Tuscarora
The Falcons have played well the second half of the season and can finish anywhere from the No. 3 to the No. 5 seed for the district tournament. The road regionals is much easier at No. 3 so the Falcons will look to knock off Potomac Falls on Thursday in the final regular-season game.
