News: Team Joe Raises $50K for Fairfax Hospital for Children's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

(Oct. 6, 2010) - Team Joe Charities fourth annual golf tournament on Friday was the highlight of a successful fundraising campaign that has brought in $50,000 this year for the Fairfax Hospital for Children's neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

In its first three years the charity took in $75,000 making its total to date $125,000 -- all of which goes directly to the hospital.

"All of us with Team Joe thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all the support, and especially for reaching into your pockets to help us raise this money," said Team Joe Charities founder Denny Petrella. Team Joe Charities was formed in 2007 to raise money for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children. The NICU is a level 3 care facility, which is the most advanced of its kind in Northern Virginia. The unit has over 60 beds and is one of the largest in the nation, and admits high-risk infants from all over our region.

Denny's son, Joe Petrella, is the namesake of Team Joe and born 12 weeks early, weighing only 1.5 pounds.

"He spent 104 days in the NICU, and without their wonderful care he would not be here with us today!," said Denny Petrella.
