College Corner: Leesburg Native Howard Makes William and Mary Men's Basketball Team

(Nov. 24, 2009) - Leesburg native Doug Howard, who played at Bishop O'Connell and then Flint Hill, has made the William and Mary men's basketball squad as a freshman walk-on.

Played his first two years at Bishop O’Connell, before playing his final two at Flint Hill … For his career, averaged 13 points, eight assist and three steals per game … Led Flint Hill in assists and steals in 2008 and 2009, while ranking second on the team in scoring both seasons … A three-time all-conference selection (2007, 2008 and 2009) … Selected All-Virginia State Independent School Division I as a junior in 2008 … Named All-Fairfax Sun Gazette in 2008 and 2009 … Named Team MVP in 2008 and received the Coaches Award in 2009 at Flint Hill … Named to the All-Tournament team for the FHS Tip Off Classic in 2008 … Selected as the WCAC Freshman of the Year in 2006 after leading Bishop O’Connell to a Virginia state championship … Helped Bishop O’Connell to a state runner-up as a sophomore … Lettered three years in football as a defensive back and wide receiver … A three-time all-conference honoree (2006, 2007 and 2008) … Named All-Sun Gazette and All-State as a senior in football as well … Helped Flint Hill to MAC Conference championships in football and basketball each of his two season … Letterwinner on the MAC winning Flint Hill baseball championship … Played AAU for Severna Park AAU and Virginia Rapids … Helped Severna Park to a seventh-place finish in the country in Division I Nationals … Virginia Rapids finished third in the country Division I national in 2006, an elite eight finalist at the Nike Main Event Showcase in the Vegas Gold Bracket in both 2007 and 2008 … Was a sports writer for school newspaper and Senior Class Representative in School Student Council … Played alto sax in high school jazz band for four years.
