Football: Triple Threat! Broad Run, Park View, Stone Bridge All Advance to Regional Finals

(Nov. 20, 2009) - On a night when the Park View and Stone Bridge football teams put together complete games on both sides of the ball, Broad Run High School faced its biggest challenge of the season and in the end all three teams advanced to Thanksgiving Week regional championship games.

Stone Bridge (11-1) avenged its only loss on the season, a 28-14 loss to Madison one month ago, with a dominating 27-8 win over the Warhawks that wasn't as close as the final score. The Bulldogs, for the eighth consecutive season, will play a regional title when they host R.E. Lee Friday in a AAA Northern Region Division 5 game tentatively scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

Broad Run (11-0), after a two week layoff, was in for a fight against a Liberty team that matched the Spartans almost score-for-score before the Spartans prevailed, 34-27. The Spartans will put their 25-game winning streak on the line Friday evening in a AA Region II Division 4 game against Sherando, tentatively scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Park View (8-3) scored 20 seconds into its game with Western Albemarle Friday, on an 80-yard Tommy Sedeski run, and never looked back, leading 21-0 in the first quarter and 35-0 at the half. The Patriots, finishing with a 35-0 shutout, will have to wait a day before finding out its AA Region II Division 3 opponent as top seed Handley hosts Goochland Saturday in Winchester. A win by the Judges and Park View will travel for the regional finals and a win by Goochland and the Pats will host.
