Track and Field: Sterling Area Athletes Make Their Mark at Battlefield Relays

(April 4, 2012)- Dominion, Potomac Falls, and Park View high schools represented Loudoun County well at the 6th annual Battlefield Relays in Haymeraket on Saturday.


On the girl's side, the county dominated the throwing events with Dominion's Mo Mitchell-Alexander leading the way with a throw of 106-07.25 in the discus with help from teammate Katie Milenski (57-08). Dominion took first place in the event.

Park View's Jewel King (91-05) and Ashley Woods (61-03) took second place and Potomac Falls' team of Megan Rickard (82-07) and Catrina Howe (68-06) took third.

In the Shot Put Omotayo Akinduro of Potomac Falls lead with a throw of 32-03 with help from teammate Megan Rickard (25-10) to take first place in the event. Park View came away with points in the event finishing third with throws from Jewel King (28-07) and Ashley Woods (28-07).

Elsewhere in the field events, Dominique White of Potomac Falls placed third in the triple jump with a jump of 30-03.5.

On the track, Potomac Falls took first place in the Distance Medley Relay and second in the 4x100 Meter Shuttle Hurdles, the 4x200 Meter Relay and the Mile Medley Relay. They finished third place in the 4x100 Meter Relay the 4x1600 meter relay with a time of 23:45.42 finishing behind Battlefield and Osbourn Park High School.

Dominion finished second behind Battlefield in the 4x800 Meter Relay with a time of 10:15.58.

Potomac Falls Finished second overall behind Osbourn Park. Dominion and Park View Finished seventh and eighth respectively out 9 total teams.

On the boys side, in the high jump Park View's Dante Absher (5-08) and Gurvinder Singh (5-02) tied for fourth with Potomac Falls' John Mahony (5-10) and Glenn Bradley (5-00).

In the long jump Dominion's Aaron Hamilton (19-09.75) and Dashaun Wesley (19-09.25) finished second. The tandem of Hamilton and Wesley also took third in the triple jump.

Elsewhere in the field events, Potomac Falls took first and second place in discus and shot respectively with throws from Mike Scott, 128-11.75 in the discus and 38-09 in the shot put and David Kott, 102-1.75 in the discus and 36-11 in the shot put.

On the track, Potomac Falls took second in the Distance Medley Relay with a time of 11:06.43. Dominion finished 4th in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 45.96 and the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:37.27. Potomac Falls freshman John Deker finished third in the freshman mile with a time of 5:01.12.

Overall Potomac Falls tied for 4th with Skyline High School. Dominion finished 6th and Park View Finished tied for 8th with 10 teams competing.
