Golf: Loudoun Valley Clinches Cedar Run District Regular-Season Title for Third Straight Year

Purcellville (Sept. 17, 2010) - The Loudoun Valley High School golf team clinched their third consecutive AAA Cedar Run District regular-season title with a win Thursday in the district's mini-tournament played at River Creek Golf Club.

Going into the tournament Valley and Battlefield were tied for the district lead and the Vikes earned the district crown and automatic bid to the Northwest Region tournament by shooting 273 to the Bobcats 276 in the event that went 16 holes (par 63) due to darkness.

Host Heritage was third with 294 and Osbourn was fourth with 336.


The low medalist honors went to the Vikings senior captains Scott Davidson (64) and Tanner Welsh (64). Also for Valley freshman Ian Hildebrand had 72 and sophomore Scott Mumpower had 73.

Heritage got qualifying scores from Ryan Douglas (66), Ryan O’Sullivan (73), Nicole Feaster (74) and Andrew Bayer (81)

For Battlefield, Kushboo Thiagiaraj posted 65 and her sister, Karishma Thiagiaraj had 71. PJ Leonard had 69 and Brandon Pastor posted 71.

Osbourn’s top scores came from Jack Morton (81), Brendan Howell and Drew Walters had 84 and Cory Brill had 87.

With the win the Vikings are assured of a spot in the regional tournament on Oct. 4 at the Gauntlet. Valley is the defending regional champion from a year ago.

First the Vikes will host the Cedar Run District tournament on Wed. Sept. 22 at the Loudoun Golf and Country Club in Purcellville. The winner of the district tournament will also qualify for the Regional Tournament. If Valley wins then the second place team will qualify.
