Football: Woodgrove Wins First Game in School History on Warfel's Field Goal in Overtime

(Sept. 25, 2010) - The Woodgrove High School football team made history Friday night with the school's first ever win and it was a dramatic victory at home as sophomore R.J. Warfel kicked the game-winning field goal in overtime to seal a 17-14 win over East Rockingham.

True to their mascot name, the Wolverines were all about the ground attack in the win as Woodgrove ran the ball 53 times for 319 yards and attempted just five passes, with one completion for 12 yards.

Matthew Reed rushed for 129 yards on 19 attempts and Atem Ntantang broke 100 yards as well with 112 on 12 attempts including a TD. Ntantang also had three tackles on defense and one interception.

Wolverines quarterback Tyler Workman picked up 70 yards and a score rushing on 20 carries.

Woodgrove travels to Purcellville neighbor Loudoun Valley Friday for the first meeting ever between the two schools separated by Route 7 and three miles.
