Football: Loudoun Board of Supervisors Make it "Redskins Week" Officially

(Sept. 8, 2010) - Silly you ... you thought every week in Loudoun was "Redskins Week" but this week ... well it is for real as decreed by the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors.

Following adoption of a proclamation making this "Redskins Week" in Loudoun County, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors presented the proclamation to the football team's general manager, Bruce Allen, during the Board's general business meeting September 7, 2010. In a brief ceremony, Board Chairman Scott York - wearing a Redkins jersey - read the following proclamation outloud:

WHEREAS, the Washington Redskins Corporate Headquarters has been located in Loudoun County since August 24, 1992

WHEREAS, the Redskins are the second most valuable franchise in the NFL,

WHEREAS, many of the Redskins players have made Loudoun County their home where they have and continue to individually perform community service,

WHEREAS, Redskins Training Camp has been held in Loudoun County since 2000,

WHEREAS, the Washington Redskins, as a corporation and as players, dedicate many personal hours to the community of Loudoun County every year, especially within the schools and with organizations that focus on children and their needs. The Redskins, on a yearly basis have provided over 300 students with backpacks filled with school supplies, 200 needy students with winter coats, awarded 50 deserving students with a $100 Target gift card and a Washington Redskin Player “shopping buddy” to lead them in a one hour shopping spree, and numerous volunteer hours in the local schools,

WHEREAS, Chairman York, on behalf of the Board, will issue a challenge to the Mayor of Irving Texas, home of the corporate headquarters and spring training for the Dallas Cowboys, as to the results of the first game of the season against the Dallas Cowboys in order to promote the spirit of our loyalty to our home team,

Now, therefore, be it resolved that, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors does hereby proclaim the week of September 7 – September 12, 2010 as Redskins Week in Loudoun County.
