Volleyball: Pride Mark Return of LeMaitre with Sweep Over Eagles

Manassas (Sept. 29, 2010) - There was a lot to celebrate for the Heritage High School volleyball team this week as the Pride opened their Cedar Run District schedule Tuesday with a 3-game sweep over Osbourn Eagles and saw the return of senior Emma LeMaitre who had been out with a foot injury.

Led offensively in the 25-18, 25-8, 25-19 win by outside hitter Lian Bernett (12 kills, 1 point, 1 ace), the Pride physically dominated all three games.

Heritage took leads early on and never looked back. Bernett was assisted offensively by freshman Madeline Fowler (4 kills, 4 points) and sophomore Kelsey Hrebenach (5 kills, 3 points, 1 ace).

The Pride’s defense was terrific, led by Fowler (1 block, 10 digs), fellow freshman Sydney Busa (1 block, 8 digs), and sophomore Christina Kamis (9 digs).

Heritage totaled 7 blocks, which caused the Eagles to hit a lot more free balls to the Pride’s side of the court. Those free balls allowed the Pride to have much more clean passes which led to easier kills. Tallying 46 team digs, the Pride were sturdy not only at the net, but also on the ground.

The Pride take on their fiercest Cedar Run District opponent, Loudoun Valley, this Thursday night (September 30th), in Purcellville at 7 p.m. It is a Dig Pink fundraiser to fight breast cancer.

Note: Heritage's senior outside hitter LeMaitre, made her return to the court over the weekend (she had been out due to injury) and helped the Pride defensively Tuesday with 7 digs.
