Soccer: Loudoun Boys 99 Red Win YMS Tournament

(Oct. 18, 2012) - The Loudoun Soccer 99 Boys Red won the Elite North Bracket of the YMS Tournament over Columbus Day weekend. The event is a prestigious east coast tournament located outside of Philadelphia.

News: Two Freedom Seniors Make College Choices - Placekicker Cameron Nizialek to Tee it Up at Columbia and Kevin Dean to Play Baseball at Salisbury

(Oct. 18, 2012) - Two Freedom High School seniors have made their college choices with kicker Cameron Nizialek to tee it up in the Ivy League at Columbia University in New York City next year and baseball midfielder Kevin Dean to play at Salisbury University on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

News: Loudoun County Sheriff's Arrest Leesburg Man After Barricade Situation on Jodhpur Drive

(Oct. 18, 2012)- A Leesburg man is in custody after he fired several rounds from a firearm during a domestic dispute and then barricaded himself inside of a residence. Loudoun County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the home on Jodhpur Drive around 4:30 PM on October 17 where the suspect, Warren H. Ours, 60, had barricaded himself alone inside his home.

(Oct 18, 2012) - Loudoun County High School grad Joshua Showalter and Woodgrove grad Lydia Cromwell are running like the wind for NCAA Division III Christopher Newport University Captains cross county teams. Each posted their personal best records and helped the Captains place 4th in the National Williamette Invitational. Read more here

Golf: Three Locals Qualify for VHSL Girls Open State Tournament

(Oct. 18, 2012) - Loudoun athletes claimed three of the seven spots up for grabs Monday at the Northwest Zone Qualifying tournament at the 1757 Club for the VHSL Girls Open State Tournament.

Broad Run's Desiree Razon and Danielle Cook of Broad Run and Arianna Israel of Stone Bridge all qualified.

News: Grand Opening of Eastern Loudoun Adult Day Center Set for Oct. 27

(Oct. 18, 2012) - The Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services and the Department of Construction and Waste Management will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the grand opening of the Eastern Loudoun Adult Day Center on Saturday, October 27, 2012. The public is invited to the ceremony, which begins at 1 p.m., followed by tours and refreshments.

News: Heritage Earns VHSL 2011-12 "Stay in the Game Awward"

Leesburg (Oct. 18, 2012) - Heritage High School, the only school in Loudoun last school year to not have any coach or player ejections, was officially given this week the VHSL 2011-12 "Stay in the Game Award".

Also, along with Park View and Tuscarora, Heritage was awarded the Claudia Dodson Sportsmanship, Ethics, and Integrity Award. Heritage and Tuscarora will present these awards at halftime of the Heritage vs. Tuscarora football game on Nov. 2.

News: Loudoun County Board Approves Sale of Ashburn Land to RagingWire for Data Center Campus

(Oct. 18, 2012) - The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors has approved the sale of county-owned property to RagingWire Data Centers for $20 million. The 75.4-acre Ashburn, Virginia parcel, which the company plans to develop into a 750,000 square-foot data center complex, is located in the area of the county known as "€œdata center alley"€ for its high concentration of data centers.

(Oct. 18, 2012) - The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office unveiled their new website this week. The website offers several innovative and interactive features in an effort to improve outreach and communication with the community. The improved website was one of Loudoun Sheriff Michael L. Chapman's goals to deliver Service, Technology, Efficiency, and Professionalism (STEP-UP) to the agency.

News: Creighton's Corner Elementary School and Northern Virginia Family Service Team Up to Help the Homeless

Ashburn (October 18, 2012) – Creighton's Corner Elementary School is teaming up with Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) to Help the Homeless in the Northern Virginia region. During the week of October 22, CCES will be teaching their students facts about homelessness during PE classes and library time. Ashburn (Oct. 18, 2012) -The only downside for the athlete playing on a championship team is that he might not get the opportunity for individual accomplishment that he would have gotten were he to play for a less successful team. Though Briar Woods senior J.T. Logan may not be the featured performer he would be if he played for another school, he has established himself as a crucial contributor to a Falcons football program that is undefeated in its last 21 games and Division 4 state champions in 2010 and 2011.

Softball: Park View Coach Ed Abner Won't Return in 2013

(Oct. 17, 2012) - Park View High School softball coach Ed Abner told his players over the summer that he won't return to coach the team in 2013. Abner stepped down after seven seasons leading the Patriots to concentrate on his duties as an assistant football coach at Broad Run High School.

Abner exits with an overall 91-67 mark at Park View. In 2012 and 2011 the Patriots went 6-15 with fewer travel-based players than other area programs.

"I really enjoy coaching football and I decided it was time to pick one sport or the other," said Abner.

As for the season-long standings, Mtneer32 of Charles Town (71-9 record) still leads but a pack of six fans are just two games back with plenty of picks left!

Our fans are playing for an overall season prize of $100 to the winner (plus $100 to their favorite Loudoun high school) with second place netting $50 and third place $25.
