Football: J.T. Logan Quietly Doing What it Takes to Keep Briar Woods Undefeated

Ashburn (Oct. 18, 2012) -The only downside for the athlete playing on a championship team is that he might not get the opportunity for individual accomplishment that he would have gotten were he to play for a less successful team. Though Briar Woods senior J.T. Logan may not be the featured performer he would be if he played for another school, he has established himself as a crucial contributor to a Falcons football program that is undefeated in its last 21 games and Division 4 state champions in 2010 and 2011.

Ashburn (Sept. 13, 2012) - In football you notice the center just long enough for him to get the ball to the quarterback. Then he is swallowed up by the scrum in the middle of the field only to be spotted, for an instant, as the next play unfolds. 

But look a little closer at the center position when the Briar Woods High School Falcons run an offensive play against Dominion Friday night. You will see senior center Brian McKelvey pointing this way and that: he is barking out blocking assignments to the other four interior linemen.

Ashburn (Aug. 30, 2012) -Playing their first-ever varsity football game the Patriot Pioneers from Prince William County had the misfortune of facing the 2010 and 2011 AA Division 4 state champion Briar Woods Falcons on their home turf.

Receiving the kickoff, the Pioneers first-ever offensive play, however, was a stunner. Sophomore Cody Agnew unloaded a long, high, spiral that was caught in stride by WR Zak Watson and taken to the Falcon five. Four plays later RB Vic Ceglie scored the Pioneer’s first touchdown. K Jamie Corcoran made good on the extra point and the visitors had a 7-0 lead in less than a minute.

That would be the high point of the evening for the Pioneers as the Falcons ran off six consecutive touchdowns en route to a 42-14 victory. In a game which went to a running clock before half of the third quarter had elapsed the Falcons piled up 474 yards of offense as they won for the 14th consecutive game and for the 26th time in 27 contests. BW junior quarterback Trace McSorley finished with a school record five TDs in the win and has now thrown for more than 4,000 yards in his career.
