Drama: Catching the Magic at Briar Woods High School

(Nov. 7, 2012) - Sure "Catching the Magic" might sound like a plug to check out the Briar Woods High School football team's march towards a third straight state title but the Falcons will also kick off their school-wide play "Catching the Magic" Thursday at 7 p.m. for a five-show run.

The production, written by Marilyn Gilligan, is family-friendly for all ages and features just about every Prince, Princess and Fairy you have ever known ... on one stage! Kids are even encouraged to come to the play in costume as their favorite character.

Girls Volleyball: Howard Named Foxcroft School's Athlete of the Week

Middleburg (Nov. 6, 2012) - Faith Howard, whose leadership has proved instrumental in the junior varsity volleyball’s improvement, has been named Foxcroft School's Athlete of the Week for the period ending October 20.

Howard, a junior co-captain who transferred to Foxcroft this year, has demonstrated a strong serve and quick reactions in transforming the JV’s defense. She was recently made the team’s “libero,” a defensive specialist who is a free substitute in the back row.

Baseball: 10U TC Twins New Team for Spring 2013 to Hold Tryouts Nov. 17

(Nov 6, 2012) - Dominion High School grad Ally Reed was named to the All Tournament Team for DIII Hollins University Volleyball team at the Roanoke College Tournament Oct 5th-6th.  Ally contributed 14 kills for the offense in the win against UVa Wise.  Ally is an international studies major with Hollins.  Great job Ally.

Softball: Tuscarora's Allyson Kuhn Commits to Play at Stockton College

(Nov. 6, 2012) - Allyson Kuhn, Class of 2013 at Tuscarora High School in Leesburg, has committed to join the softball program at Stockton College in New Jersey, an NCAA Division III program, beginning in fall 2013.

Kuhn, a left-handed pitcher, is the first from the Tuscarora softball program to be recruited to the college softball ranks since Tuscarora opened in fall 2010. She will major in pre-physical therapy with hopes to secure entry into Stockton’s six year Doctor of Physical Therapy program.

Football: Virginia Xtreme 11U Purple Wins NFL Flag Baltimore Regional Tournament

(Nov. 6, 2012) -The Virginia Xtreme Sports 11U team (VXS Purple) won the Regional Flag Football tournament, hosted by NFL Flag and USA Football. The tournament was held on October 20th 2012 at The Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, MD.

The tournament consisted of 3 divisions 9-11 co-ed 12-14 boys and 12-14 girls and featured top teams from Virginia, Washington D.C., Maryland, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Indiana.

Boys Lacrosse: Cavaliers U13 Orange Team Goes 5-0 at Brine Indian Summer Tournament

(Nov. 6, 2012) - The Cavaliers U13 Orange boys lacrosse team went 5-0 while winning the Brine Indian Summer tournament Oct. 20-21. The Cavs are comprised of Loudoun County boys. They beat Fuze 7-1 in the semis and the Baltimore Breakers 10-2 in the final. This is the second championship for Coach Pehlke and the fourth overall for the Cavs in the past two years.

Coach Pehlke was a four-time All-American at UVA where he was the 1990 ACC Rookie of the Year, was all-ACC in 1990, 91 and 93. He also was one of four players in ACC history with 100 goals and 100 assists.

(Nov 4, 2012) - Broad Run grad Kacey Kelley was selected to the Big South soccer all-conference first team for NCAA D1 Coastal Carolina University.

Kelley was named a first team forward after a sophomore season in which she scored a team-high nine goals and dished out one assist. The Ashburn, Va., native played and started in 16 games and led the Chanticleers with 19 points, 67 shots and 35 shots on goal, leading the team in all three categories.

(Nov. 6, 2012) - Dominant is the only term to describe the 14U Diamond Elite team performance in the fall season for the NVTBL (Northern Virginia Travel Baseball League) and regional tournaments . Wrestling: Loudoun County Schedules Events to Help Raise Funds for Red Cross Hurricane Relief and Wounded Warrior Project

(Nov. 6, 2012) - Stone Bridge High School senior Ryan Ackermann has been named the Northern Region girls volleyball first team in a vote of the region coaches. Teammate, junior libero Sarah Fairchild, was named to the second team.
