Leesburg (March 1, 2012) - The Loudoun County High School and Northern Virginia Volleyball Association communities are mourning the passing of long-time supporter Margaret "Peggy" Marie Luten, at age 52, on Feb. 24 in Leesburg. A celebration of her life will be held at noon Saturday, March 3 at the Raspberry Plain Mansion, near Leesburg, followed by a reception at the Luten’s residence.
A resident of Leesburg for the past 15 years, Luten was born Oct. 9, 1959, in Anchorage, AK, to Ralph and Dorothy Matukonis. After graduating from West Anchorage High School, she attended the University of Idaho from 1977 to 1982 earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in sociology.
She was a member of the University Parachute Club and a founding member of the University Rafting Club. She met her husband Randy at the college and they married the day of their graduation. They lived in Munich, Germany for five years and she worked as a civilian for Army Intelligence.
In addition to her husband, she is survived her daughters Megan, currently attending the University of Virginia, and Christine, who is graduating from Loudoun County High School and plans to attend the University of West Virginia; and brothers Ralph, Raymond and John Matukonis, all of Alaska. Other family members include her nieces Erin, Alexandra, Josephine Matukonis; nephew Jordon Matukonis; and aunts Valerie and Veronica Matukonis of St. Petersburg, FL.
