Gymnastics: APEX Crowns State Champions, Qualifies 11 to Regional Competition

Apex Gymnastics Maddie Scozzie won the Level 9 All Around State Title 

(March 27, 2012) - APEX Gymnastics Maddy Scozzie was crowned the Level 9 All Around State Champion over the weekend at the Level 9 State Championships in Richmond.

Scozzie was also state champion on vault, balance beam and won silver on the floor exercise. Scozzie was competing in her final state meet as she will graduate in June from Broad Run High School and next year will compete for the Cortland University Red Dragons.

Other APEX highlights were Kylie Klokis who finished 3rd on balance beam and 3rd in the all around. Anli Solly finished 2nd on balance beam. Cassidy Gagnon won the silver on floor exercise and Bridgette Schaal finished with the bronze on vault. Alex Cocozza plaed 4th on floor and 5th in the all around and Madison O'Braitis was 4th on vault and 6th on balance beam.


At Level 8, APEX was led by Amy Eck who finished 4th on vault, 5th on bars, beam and in the all around. Amy was named to the Level 8 Virginia State Team for Regionals. Also at Level 8, Eleni Papadopoulos finished 3rd on bars, 5th on vault and 6th in the all around and also qualified to the Regional competition. Kat Friberg was 8th on vault, Tess Tibbits was 8th on beam and Courtney Walker was 7th on beam.

APEX will send the following gymnasts onto Regionals in Virginia Beach for level 9 and Berks County, PA for level 8s. Those qualifying gymnasts are: Maddy Scozzie, Kylie Klokis, Caitlin Villavicencio, Cassidy Gagnon, Jessica Schaub, Bridgette Schaal, Sara Connors, Alex Cocozza, Madison O'Braitis, Eleni Papadopoulos and Amy Eck.
