(March 19, 2012) - Middleburg Academy senior Maclain Huge of Lovetsville secured his first victory of the season at the Plantations Junior Golf Tour’s Bull Run event this past weekend.
Huge, a Elite Performance Golf Academy student, began the day at Bull Run Golf Club in Haymarket three strokes behind the leaders and could make up no ground on the front nine. Knowing he needed to make something happen heading into the final nine holes Huge played smart solid golf, according to Middleburg Academy coach Adam Harrell. He carded three birdies against no bogies to shoot 3 under par 33 on the closing stretch, which got him into a 3-way playoff for the title.
With poise and determination, Huge won the playoff on his first hole giving him a well earned victory in just his third tournament of the season. He fired rounds of 73-70 to finish at one under par for the event. The victory should move Huge up in the rankings, he is currently 86 in the Polo Golf Rankings.
Huge is a senior at Middleburg Academy and the captain of the golf team. He has committed to attend Virgina Tech in the fall on a golf scholarship.
Harrell sees this victory as a spring board for future success. Harrell said Huge has been working diligently on his wedges and putting. Huge spends 4-5 days per week training at the Elite Performance Golf Academy and the other two days working on his game at Loudoun Country Club.
"Keep a eye out for this standout as he continues to develop into an elite level player," said Harrell.
