Lacrosse: Three Area Teams Clinch Regional Bids; SB Boys Game Shifts Location

(May 16, 2011) - Three area teams clinched regional tournament bids last night -- Loudoun Valley girls, Freedom girls and Dominion boys -- as some of the lacrosse postseason action beat the weather.

In the Dulles District, regular-season champions, the Woodgrove girls and Briar Woods boys advanced to Wednesday's finals where they will face No. 2 seeds, Freedom girls and Dominion boys. Teams in the finals will advance to the regional tournament as will the winner of Wednesday's consolation games between Loudoun County and Briar Woods on the girls side and Loudoun County and Woodgrove on the boys side.

The girls tournament is at Woodgrove and the boys tournament has been moved to Tuscarora.

In the Cedar Run, Loudoun Valley won big over Heritage to clinch a Northwestern Region bid. The boys action did not finish with both Loudoun Valley, at home against Stonewall Jackson, and Heritage, on the road at Battlefield, trailing early. The Pride's game against the Bobcats has been relocated to Liberty High School on Wednesday at 5 p.m. Valley hopes to resume at home on Wednesday.

The Stone Bridge boys and girls open Northern Region action tonight with the boys match against Woodson now scheduled to be played at Lee High School. The girls are at Annandale.
