Soccer: Stone Bridge Shoots for Two Liberty District Titles Tonight at McLean

(May 20, 2011) - The Stone Bridge High School boys and girls soccer teams will both play for Liberty District titles tonight at McLean High School with the boys taking on Langley at 6 p.m. followed by the Bulldog girls facing host McLean at 8 p.m. Stone Bridge's softball team will also be at McLean, taking on Madison in semifinal play at 7:30 p.m.

The top-seeded Stone Bridge girls soccer team beat Fairfax, 2-1, Thursday to advance. Ashley Herndon and Murielle Tiernan each had a goal tonight with Herndon and Emily Lung earning assists. Goalkeeper Julia Harmison had eight saves in the game.

The second-seeded Stone Bridge Boys soccer team advanced with a dramatic triple overtime 1-0 win over South Lakes in the semifinals at Fairfax HS. Luke Schierling scored his seventh goal of the season off a long throw-in from Tommy Dunne, his 14th assists on the season, with 3:24 to play in the third OT for the golden goal win (sudden victory).

Abe Yoslov stopped 9 South Lakes shots and picked up his 8th full shutout and the team's 9th on the season. With the win the team improves to 9-1-4 on the season.

Stone Bridge softball defeated Marshall 13-0 in five innings Thursday in the first round of the Liberty District tournament. Pitcher Kelly McDaniel secured the win for the Lady Bulldogs allowing 2 hits while striking out 4 and walking 1.
