(May 23, 2011) - The Broad Run High School football team held a signing celebration on Friday for five Spartans from the Class of 2011 who will play in college. Honored by family, teammates and coaching staff were: Joe Walter IUP - Indiana University of Penn; Ryan Garrity - Randolph-Macon; Kevin Varella - Randolph-Macon; Eddie Barnes - Washington and Lee; and Tyler Lafollette - Fairmont State.
The group helped Broad Run to three straight trips to the Region II title game and back-to-back state titles in 2008 and 2009. In a three-year span the Spartans were 39-2, including back-to-back 14-0 campaigns followed by 11-2 last season with both losses coming to state champion and Ashburn neighbor Briar Woods High School.
