Softball: Briar Woods Wins Third Straight Dulles District Tournament Title

(May 30, 2011) - Junior Macy Jones fired a two-hitter and freshman Kacie Kondrotis snapped a scoreless deadlock with a two-out, two-run single in the fourth inning as Briar Woods High School defeated Woodgrove 4-1 to win its third straight Dulles District Tournament softball title Thursday night at Tuscarora High School in Leesburg.

Jones retired the first 10 Wolverines before allowing a one-out walk in the fourth. She then got the next two outs on fly outs.

In the bottom of the fourth, Jones drilled a one-out single and senior Kristina Karagiorgis followed with a single. One out later, sophomore Lynn Brantley reached on an infield error to load the bases, and Kondrotis followed with a two-run single.

The Falcons, who improved to 20-3 with their school-record 13th straight win, added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Senior Jillian Olson reached on a fielder's choice, Jones walked and Karagiorgis laced a two-run double to give the Falcons a 4-0 lead.
Woodgrove scored an unearned run with two outs in the top of the seventh to break up the shutout.

Jones didn't allow a hit until two outs in the fifth but got the next batter on a foul out. Jones finished with eight strikeouts and one walk.

The Falcons will host a Region II quarterfinal game on Tuesday. The opponent and game time will be announced at a later date. Woodgrove hosts Loudoun County on Memorial Day at 6 p.m. in a regional first round contest.
