Juniors Luisa Brown and Caroline Harris, and senior Claire Knepshield were voted to the all-DAC softball team by the league coaches, marking the first time that Foxcroft has had more than one player so honored. In soccer, senior co-captains Sarah Gilmore and Ellie Meyer, and junior Kitty Foster received First Team honors and, in lacrosse, senior Markesha Burnett and sophomore Carter Ware were tabbed.

All three softball players were ranked among the top 10 vote-getters among conference players, with Luisa finishing in the top five. It is the third year in a row that Knepshield received mention. The senior from Ford City, PA, who plans to play at Sewanee: The University of the South next year, was an honorable mention selection in her sophomore year and a first team selectee in her junior year.
Brown, a junior co-captain from Delaplane, VA, had at least one hit in nine of 10 DAC games and hit .516 against league competition. She also led the team in hits (16), RBI (13) and on-base percentage in league games. She played strong defense at third base and in the outfield and was named the team’s Most Improved Player by the coaches.
Knepshield hit .345 against DAC competition and had an on-base percentage of .553 with 12 RBI. She is the team’s pitcher and served as captain for the second consecutive year, leading the team to its most wins in at least six years with a 6-7 record.
Harris, a transfer from softball powerhouse Bishop O’Connell who lives in Vienna, VA, scored 21 runs in 10 conference games and batted .387 with an on-base percentage of .537. She also hit two home runs and two triples against DAC pitching and led the team in slugging percentage with .709. An excellent defensive shortstop, Caroline’s powerful throwing arm is the best in the DAC and turned what appeared to be several sure base hits into outs. The Foxcroft coaches named her the team’s Most Valuable Player.
Gilmore, a co-captain who grew up on the Foxcroft campus, proved to be a powerful and efficient defender for the soccer team, which advanced to the semifinals of the Conference Tournament and finished with a 5-6-1 record. She knew when she had time to pass the ball up and assist in a play up front. She was a very eager player who improved a great deal over the course of the season and was named the Most Valuable Player by the team’s coaches.
Meyer, the other co-captain, was switched from midfield to forward midway through the season and scored four goals, including a hat trick against Emmanuel Christian School. Despite an ankle injury late in the season that hampered her play, the senior from Berryville, Va., never lost her enthusiasm and offered great insight and support to her team. She was given the team’s Coaches Award for her contributions.
Foster, who played both midfield and forward, was the team’s most polished player in terms of strength, precision and finesse. A junior from Leesburg, Va., she scored four goals, including a game-tying goal in the waning moments against Quantico High that earned the team a 1-1 tie in the first game of the season.
Lacrosee had perhaps the most dramatic story of the spring season. Burnett, a senior from Philadelphia, PA, had been a field player for three seasons but was asked to step in as a goalkeeper when starter Alexis Hall was injured. Burnett was stellar in the net, saving many goals with clutch saves and collected 28 saves against DAC competition during three games in the net. She was named the team’s Most Improved Player.
Ware, a sophomore from Middleburg, was the team’s leading scorer with 10 goals and eight assists against DAC competiton. She was a solid player at both ends of the field, creating scoring opportunities and playing first-rate transitional defense. She was voted by the coaches as the team’s Most Valuable Player.
