Football: LC Coach Todd Hill Recovering From Painful Fracture of the Tip of the Thigh Bone

You would think Loudoun County High School football coach Todd Hill would have reason to smile these days with his Raiders undefeated at 4-0 heading into their AA Dulles District opener at Park View Friday but Hill suffered a bit of misfortune when he took a fall on Sept. 17 at Sherando.

Loudoun County Athletic Director Ken Wright said this week that Hill, who coached Friday's win over Liberty on crutches, has been diagnosed this week with a fracture of the tip of his thigh bone.

"I'll be OK, (it will) just take some time," said Hill in an email. The pain from the injury can't cloud his feelings for his team which made the Division 4 playoffs in 2008, Hill's second campaign after taking over a winless program. "(I'm) really proud of the boys. They are working hard."

In Hill's first year at Loudoun County, the Raiders went 2-8 overall and snapped an 18-game losing skid. Last year the Raiders went 6-4 in the regular season and made the playoffs for the first time since 1999, falling to district rival and eventual state champion Broad Run in the first round.

The injury must especially be tough for Hill, who had to step down from coaching after leading Handley from 1995 to 2001 due to knee injuries suffered when a player's helmet collided with his leg at practice. At Handley, Hill went 50-30 (.625 winning percentage). He led the Judges to three Northwestern District titles, a Region II runner-up finish, two Region II titles and a AA Division 3 state runner-up

Hill became Handley's Athletic Director on July 1, 2003, a position he held until assuming the Raiders head coaching job in 2007.
