College Corner: Moody's Season Ends at William and Mary with Severe Ankle Injury + More Updates

(Sept. 18, 2009) - Former Stone Bridge High School standout Ryan Moody was having a dream redshirt freshmen season at William and Mary as he was in the starting line-up and helped The Tribe upset Virginia in the season opener. The dream turned to a nightmare last weekend when Moody was severely injured in William and Mary's home opener against Central Connecticut State.

Following an interception in the third quarter of the 33-14 win, Moody was in on the tackle and broke his ankle. He was down on the field for 15 minutes before being removed and had to have surgery Sunday and wasn't released from the hospital until Wednesday.. He is due for another surgery in eight weeks to remove a screw in the ankle.

PF's Sweger to Play Club Ball at Tech: Aaron Sweger, former Potomac Falls star, has made the club baseball team at Virginia Tech. Haven't heard of club sports on the NCAA Division I level? Well, it is very, very competitive and nothing close to intra-murals. For example, Sweger and three other players were chosen for the Hokie club team after five days of tryouts. And how many players tried out? 90! The club teams play a full schedule against other college clubs and even have a spring break trip scheduled. Congrats Aaron!

Broad Run former punter Tim Miscovich is averaging 37.4 yards per punt, including a 58-yarder, as a true freshmen this season at Bryant University ... former Park View center Donny Smith was a starter Saturday as James Madison just missed the upset over Maryland, falling 38-35 in overtime .. Former Stone Bridge star Jeron Gouveia-Winslow made his college debut Saturday in Virginia Tech's blowout win over Marhsall. The redshirt freshmen had a solo tackle for a 7-yard loss and an assist. Another former SB mainstay offensive linemen Ed Wang is once again anchoring the Hokie line at left tackle. Wang, a redshirt senior, has been a starter for two and half seasons after shifting over from tight end. His younger brother David Wang, will redshirt this season for Tech.
