Swim: Tuscarora SR Amanda Presgraves Commits to James Madison

(April 13, 2012) - Tuscarora High School senior, Amanda Presgraves, recently committed to swim for James Madison University next year. The JMU Swim and Dive team won the 2012 Division I CAA Conference and is currently ranked second in the Mid-Major Poll.

Presgraves has competed with SNOW Swimming for the past 12 years and currently holds several swimming records for 2nd-year Tuscarora.

Girls Lacrosse: Loudoun County SR Rachel Solis Commits to Mary Washington

(April 13, 2012) - Loudoun County High School girls lacrosse two-time team MVP, Rachel Solis, has committed to continue her career at NCAA Division III Mary Washington next year.

Solis informed UMW coach Dana Hall of her decision to attend UMW this week and is excited about joining the Eagles, according to Raider athletic director Ken Wright.

Solis currently holds six school records at LCHS, including career goals (212) and goals in a season (95). For her accomplishments, she was also named to the first team All Dulles District as a junior last year.

Wright: "The Athletic Department at LCHS is very proud of Rachel and elated that her hard work and dedication have paid off. Congratulations to Rachel and her family."

News: Diamond Elite Baseball and Softball Camps Set for the Summer

(April 13, 2012) - Diamond Elite has released its schedule of summer Sam Plank Baseball Camps and Bobbay Barton (VA Tech)/Diamond Elite 2012 Softball Camps.

On the baseball side, there are six camps for those ages 7 to 12 starting June 25 and running into August. The first five camps run from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the first four days and 9:30 a.m. to noon on the final day at a cost of $215 per player. Stone Bridge High School head baseball coach Sam Plank directs the camps.

On the softball side, there are five camps for ages 7 to 16 starting June 25 and running into August. Each camp costs $138.50 per player and runs 2.5 hours each day. Former Virginia Tech assistant softball coach Bobby Barton directs the camps.

Boys Lacrosse: Briar Woods to Host "Score for the Cure" to Benefit Headstrong Foundation

(April 13, 2012) - The Briar Woods boys lacorsse team will hold its annual Headstrong Foundation event, Score for the Cure, this coming Tuesday, April 17, when the Falcons JV and varsity teams play host to Potomac Falls at 6 and 7:30 p.m.

Any youth player who wears their jersey to the game will get in free when accompanied by a paying adult. T-shirts, shoelaces, sun glasses, lanyards, and bracelets will all be available for purchase. Donations will also be accepted. During halftime of the varsity game the Dulles South Scoopers (U7 team) will play a mini exhibition game.

Girls Basketball: Loudoun Team Set for Suburban All Star Game Sunday

(April 13, 2012) - Loudoun County High School girls basketball coach Derek Fisher will lead a squad of Loudoun seniors this Sunday in the Suburban All Start game set for 1 p.m. at Oakton High School.

The Loudoun all stars will play all stars from the AAA Northern Region (Concord and National Districts). At 3 p.m., Prince William County all stars will play all stars from the AAA Patriot and Liberty Districts

The games are presented by the Northern Virginia Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Admission is $5.

Girls Soccer: Woodgrove Opens Up Lead in Dulles District; Freedom, Loudoun County Still Unbeaten

(April 12, 2012) - The Woodgrove High School girls soccer team has opened up a lead in the Dulles District with a 6-0-1 start but the Wolverines are not the only team still unbeaten as Loudoun County is 4-0-2 in the Dulles and Freedom is 6-0-1 in its first season at AAA with a win its Cedar Run District opener.

Stone Bridge is 4-1-2 and the high-scoring Bulldogs easily won their Liberty District opener. Broad Run, also moving up to AAA is at .500 overall (3-2-2) after a surprising tie with first-year Patriot but the Spartans are 1-0-1 in the Cedar Run.

Boys Soccer: Tuscarora Unbeaten Midway Through Dulles District Schedule

(April 12, 2012) - Tuscarora High School is unbeaten midway through the Dulles District lengthy 16-game schedule at 7-0-1 with the only blemish coming in a 1-1 tie Wednesday night to Leesburg rival Heritage.

The Huskies are a full game up on Briar Woods (5-1-1) with Heritage in third at 4-2-2 and surprising Woodgrove sitting fourth at 3-3-1, just ahead of Dominion (3-3-0) and Park View (3-4-0).

Broad Run is 2-2-1 in non-district play but 2-0 in the Cedar Run District. Freedom dropped its Cedar Run opener and Stone Bridge tied South Lakes in its Liberty District opener.

Girls Lacrosse: Freedom (5-0), Stone Bridge (7-1) Open Season Strong

(April 12, 2012) - Freedom High School, with a 5-0 mark, and Stone Bridge, at 7-1, have opened the girls lacrosse season strong at the AAA level.

In the AA Dulles District, Loudoun Valley and Woodgrove have each opened district play at 2-0 and Loudoun County is 5-1 overall.

Freedom has a key match tonight when the Eagles host Battlefield.

Boys Lacrosse: Briar Woods off to 5-0 Start, Falcons One of Four Dulles Teams at 2-0 in District

(April 12, 2012) - The Briar Woods High School boys lacrosse team is the last unbeaten Loudoun squad at 5-0. In the Dulles District the Falcons are just one of four teams -- including Dominion, Heritage and Loudoun Valley -- at 2-0 in district play.

The Cedar Run and Liberty districts are just underway as well with Broad Run and Freedom in the Cedar Run and Stone Bridge in the Liberty all 1-0 in league. Freedom has a big test at Battlefield tonight while Broad Run hosts Osbourn.

In the Dulles District the top match-ups tonight at 7:30 p.m. feature Dominion at Loudoun Valley and Heritage at Loudoun County.

Softball: Stone Bridge Unbeaten on the Season; 3-Way Tie at Top of Dulles District

(April 12, 2012) - On the heels of a 31-0 win over South Lakes, the Stone Bridge High School softball team remains Loudoun's only unbeaten baseball or softball squad at 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the Liberty District.

In the Dulles District, Loudoun County's 2-0 win over previously unbeaten Briar Woods this week has thrown the district race into a 3-way tie with the Falcons, Raiders and Woodgrove all 5-1 and Dominion and Potomac Falls just a game back.

The Cedar Run District race just started this week with the three top teams -- Broad Run, Battlefield and Osbourn -- all notching wins.

Baseball: Dulles District a 4-Team Scramble at Top; Stone Bridge Tied for Liberty Lead

(April 12, 2012) - At the midway point in the high school baseball season plenty of Loudoun teams have regular-season district title hopes.

In the Dulles District there is a 4-team scramble at the top with Potomac Falls and Woodgrove, at 5-1 in district, a half game ahead of Heritage and Loudoun Valley, each at 5-2.

In the Liberty District, Stone Bridge is tied with McLean for the lead with each team at 4-1 in district. Langley, Madison and Marshall are all a game back.

In the Cedar Run District, Broad Run and Freedom each dropped their district opener this week but with nine games remaining on the district slate, everything is up for grabs. First-year Patriot has opened 7-1 overall.

(April 12, 2012) - Loudoun has a total of seven softball and girls soccer teams ranked in the latest Top 10 released by the Washington Post. Stone Bridge (7-0), Briar Woods (7-1) and Woodgrove (7-1) are ranked 3-4-5 in softball with Broad Run (6-1) No. 7. Flag Football: Cherry Blossom 5x5 Tournament Set for April 15 at Loudoun Country Day School

(April 11, 2012) - Virginia Xtreme Sports, building on the success of their Fall Classic Flag Football Tournament, is hosting its first annual Cherry Blossom Open 5v5 Flag Football Tournament from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 15 at Loudoun Country Day School in Leesburg. Top ranked teams from FL, NJ, PA, VA, MD and Washington, D.C. will participate in this competitive tournament with four age divisions (10U, 12U, 14U and 16U).

Girls Basketball: Freedom Freshman Coach Teddy Whitney to Take Over Varsity Reigns

South Riding (April 10, 2012) - Following tonight's Loudoun County School Board approval, Freedom High School announced that Teddy Whitney has been named its next head varsity girls basketball coach.

Whitney comes with past coaching experience at Flint Hill School, Robinson Secondary School, and Langley High School. Most recently, Whitney has served from 2010-12 as the freshmen girls basketball coach at Freedom High School.

News: School Board, Looking to Trim $22 Million from Proposed Budget, to Hold Budget Work Sessions

(April 10, 2012) - The Loudoun County School Board, looking to trim $22 million from next year's budget after the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors adopted a county-wide budget last week that features a 5-cent decrease in the current property tax rate, has scheduled five budget work sessions in April. Only the April 17 session will be open to public comment.
