News: 45 LCPS Schools Win Virginia Index of Performance Awards

(Feb. 1, 2011) - Forty-five schools in Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) have been honored by Gov. Bob McDonnell and the Virginia Board of Education as part of the 2011 Virginia Index of Performance (VIP) awards for advanced learning and achievement.


This program was created by the Board of Education in 2007. It recognizes schools that achieve excellence goals and far exceed minimum state and federal accountability standards. Schools earned 2011 VIP awards based on student achievement and other performance indicators during the 2009-2010 school year.

Twelve LCPS schools earned the Governor's Award for Educational Excellence. Statewide 110 schools earned this accolade.

Twenty-six LCPS schools earned the Board of Education Excellence Award. 323 schools throughout the commonwealth were given this distinction.

The Board of Education Competence to Excellence Award went to seven LCPS schools. 289 school in Virginia earned this honor.

Following is a summary of the criteria for these awards and the LCPS schools that attained them:


2011 Governor's Award for Educational Excellence

To qualify for the Governor's Award for Educational Excellence, schools must meet all state and federal achievement benchmarks for at least two consecutive years and achieve applicable excellence goals for elementary reading, enrollment in Algebra I by the eighth grade, enrollment in college-level courses, high school graduation, attainment of advanced diplomas, increased attainment of career and industry certifications, and participation in the Virginia Preschool Initiative.

Schools also earn bonus points for other performance measures, including the Governor's Nutrition and Physical Activity Scorecard.

Each school earning a Governor's Award for Educational Excellence will receive a display banner and a signed resolution of commendation from Governor McDonnell.
