Basketball: Regional Seedings Pit Dulles District Foes Against Each Other

(Feb. 18, 2011) - The Region II basketball tournament seedings are all but official and it is a major case of good news and bad news for Dulles District fans. The good news: 10 teams will advance. The bad news: six of those 10 teams will face each other in the regional quarterfinals, including four Division 4 girls team that comprise an entire side of their 8-team bracket.

And the other other local first round match-up next Tuesday is another Division 4 early showdown as Broad Run, slipping to the No. 8 seed after falling to Woodgrove in the first round of the district tournament, travels to No. 1 seed Potomac Falls.

In Division 4 girls, No. 7 Potomac Falls will play at No. 2 Loudoun County while No. 6 Briar Woods will play at No. 3 Freedom. The winners of those two games will then square off in the semifinals with a regional title game and guaranteed state bid on the line.

The fifth girls team to make the tournament will be Park View as a No. 7 seed in Division 3.

The Briar Woods boys will be a No. 5 seed in Division 4 and Woodgrove is has moved all the way up from being a No. 7 seed in the district tournament to hosting a regional game as the first-year Wolverines will be the No. 4 seed in Division 3. Park View makes the tournament as the No. 6 seed.

First the Dulles District tournament titles will be handed out tonight at Woodgrove as Freedom and Loudoun County meet for the fourth straight year in the girls final and upstart Woodgrove takes on Potomac Falls.

Park View be the #7 seed and travel to the #2 seed Western Albemarle on Tuesday Feb. 22nd for a 1/4 final game at 7pm

Region II Boys Basketball
Tentative Seedings
Woodgrove is locked in at #4
Park View is locked in at #6

Woodgrove will host the loser between Jefferson District's Charlottesville and Monticello, while Park View will travel and face the winner.
