(Sept. 7, 2011) - Due to wet field conditions, Stone Bridge High School has moved its scheduled freshman football home game Thursday with Tuscarora to the turf field at Tuscarora. Kickoff is 6 p.m.
The Bulldogs will be the away team and the Bulldog Season Pass will not be accepted for the event. Stone Bridge will try and schedule a home game with the Huskies for next freshman football season.

Volleyball: Dominion Grad Ally Reed is Named Hollins Student Athlete of the Week
Reed, Hollins Class of 2013, is majoring in international studies at the Roanoke school.
Reed finished last season with a team-high 226 kills in 25 matches (2.54 kills per set average). She was second the team with 39 service aces and she led the NCAA Division III team with 361 digs.
Hollins is a women's only institution for undergraduate studies with an enrollment of 759. The school, founded in 1842, boasts an average class size of 13.

(Sept. 7, 2011) - Continued rain and now thunder storms in Loudoun has again forced postponements. Freedom High School announced the following Wednesday:
Today's Freshmen/ JV Football vs. Patriot has been rescheduled for Monday, September 26 at 5:30 and 7pm. The 9/26 Freshmen Football game vs. Potomac Falls has been rescheduled for TBA.

Football: Tuesday Afternoon Quarterback
(Sept. 6, 2011) - Back by popular demand - protesters have been outside of our VivaLoudoun compound all day asking for this update -- is our Tuesday Afternoon Quarterback.
Friday's Games
Broad Run 14, Briar Woods 0
The Skinny: This game turned on two huge plays ... including Broad Run going for it on 4th down from their own 15 yard line in the third quarter with a 7-0 lead. Yes, that was not a typo as Spartan coach Matt Griffis was playing the complete Riverboat Gambler by allowing QB/punter Connor Jessop to audible on the 4th down play. Jessop's pass near the Falcons sideline was incomplete which should have given BWoods the ball and amazing momentum ... but a 15-yard unsportsmanlike flag was thrown on the Falcons on the play. Even stranger, word on the field was that the call was for a member of the Briar Woods sidelines accidentally bumping into an official as he ran near the home bench on the play. A call you do not see every day for sure. The drive, now still alive, continued all the way to the end zone as the Spartans went up 14-0 on Jessop's 10-yard determined run as the third quarter expired.
The second big play came in the first half with the game scoreless and Briar Woods putting together its best drive of the night. It appeared that the Falcons might get at least three points to go ahead but Dorian Jenkins, for the second straight week, came up with a big interception in the end zone. Putting points on the board might have been the confidence builder the Falcons needed in their season-opener.
Broad Run's defense stifled the Falcons running attack on the night and the Spartans were able to hold the ball for almost three of four quarters. The Spartans had a balanced attack with almost equal passing and rushing yardage while Briar Woods threw almost twice as much as they ran the ball.
Briar Woods still has the talent to go 9-1 and make a serious run at repeating their state title. Broad Run has shown that they have the making of a special team and will get a chance this week to test the AAA waters for the first time.

Heritage 36, Hedgesville 19
The Skinny: The Pride have put all memories of last year's 1-9 season behind them with the 2-0 opening. Austin Nelson threw for 250 yards on 12 of 18 passing and had TDs of 30 and 32 yards to playmaker Marcus Finney plus a TD throw to Brady Gerling. Finney also returned a kickoff 75 yards for a TD. Juan Narvaez had a big night running for Heritage with 130 yards on 21 attempts.
Up Next: Heritage returns to the Dulles District for the first time since 2008 with a district opener at Dominion, which had a bye week.
James Wood 19, Loudoun Valley 6
The Skinny: James Wood makes it 2-0 vs. Loudoun teams by knocking off Vikes, who had opened the year with a win over Fauquier. Valley wasn't able to generate much offense with only a late Danny White TD pass to Wesley Robinson breaking the shutout. Donald Devine led Valley in rushing with 48 yards on six carries. White was 8 of 17 for 70 yards. Valley hurt its cause with two fumbles lost, including on the kickoff after James Wood had marched 73 yards on 16 plays on the game's first drive. They turned that turnover into three more points to lead 10-0 before Valley's offense had even stepped on the field.
Up Next: Valley marks the return to Dulles District play for the first time since 2004 with a rivalry game at Loudoun County -- renewing Loudoun's oldest series.
Kettle Run 45, Potomac Falls 0
The Skinny: The Panthers have yet to score this season after running into a hot Kettle Run team Friday. PFalls has been out-scored, 86-0, to open the year but look to bounce back with Dulles District play opening Friday.
Up Next: Panthers host Woodgrove Friday.
Liberty 37, Park View 10
The Skinny: Liberty continued its winning ways against Dulles District teams with a win over the Pats on a night when Park View honored its newest Hall of Fame class. The Patriots are now 0-2 after opening the year with a loss at Broad Run. The Eagles did all of their TD damage on the ground as Aristotle Howard rushed for 128 yards and two scores (35, 6) on 18 carries. Anthony Budd added 69 yards and two TDs (15, 5) and Mike Lee finished with 90 yards and a touchdown (16) on just six touches.
Up Next: It just doesn't get easier for the Patriots as they travel to open district play at defending state champion Briar Woods.
Osbourn Park 41, Freedom 0
The Skinny: Freedom is another team with a killer schedule and also another offense searching for its first score after two weeks. OP QB Neil Rosenberg threw for 143 yards and two touchdowns, both to Damon Nicholson, who also scored a TD on the ground. Jeremy Ball ran for 73 yards and a TD as well. OP led 31-0 at the half.
Up Next: Freedom's tough schedule continues with Gar-Field, a tough Prince William program, coming to South Riding Friday.
Woodgrove 36, Brentsville 6
The Skinny: In year two the Huskies have already matched last year's win total with a quick 2-0 start. The offense has been in mid-season form for Woodgrove with Atem Ntantang motoring for 110 yards and three TDs on just 15 carries. It was 7-0 at the half but Ntantang found the end zone twice in the third quarter to make it 22-0 Wolverines. The Tigers did not score until it was 36-0. Tyler Workman only needed to throw three times in the vicotry. Karl Austin had 69 yards rushing and a score on six attempts.
Up Next: Woodgrove's first ever Dulles District game -- last year the Wolverines did not play a full district slate -- at Potomac Falls this Friday.
Thursday's Game
Stone Bridge 3, Robinson 0
The Skinny: No Randy May was not coaching this game for the Bulldogs but Stone Bridge and Robinson battled all night in a contest that appeared headed for a scoreless overtime game - until Stone Bridge brought in back-up RB Stephen Trivieri, a senior transfer from Canada, and handed him the ball 13 straight times, running the same play 12 times in a row as they drove down to the 1 to set up Ben Lambourne's game-winning chip shot FG. The Bulldogs defense, which gave up only 56 points in 10 regular season games last year, appears capable, behind the play of JR lineman Jonathan Allen and SR LB Aaron Palmer, of holding opponents to even less points this season. The Bulldogs will look for improvement in their passing game under new QB Ryan Burns.
Up Next: Stone Bridge travels to face another Concorde District power, Chantilly.

Here is the latest news from the high schools:
*The Briar Woods vs. Park View JV/Freshman Football games have been CANCELLED today due to VERY wet field conditions and been rescheduled for Thursday, September 8 here at Park View High School,
Freshman 5:45 and JV 7:15
*Today's Dominion football games at Heritage HS have been moved due to the rain. The games will now be played at TUSCARORA High School on Wed., Sept. 7. Freshman kick off at 6:30 and the JV to follow at appx. 7:45 PM.
*Tonight's Loudoun County games vs. Loudoun Valley has been postponed to Wednesday 9/7 and moved to WOODGROVE HS on the turf. This game should be able to go no matter what now that we have it on the turf. Game times are adjusted to 6pm for freshmen and 7:30pm for JV.

News: Loudoun County High School Taking Preventative Measures to Fight Staph Infections
"We feel it is worth the extra effort," said Raider principal Bill Oblas in a note sent to parents and athletes.
Going above and beyond guidelines by local health officials, the Raiders cancelled practice over the weekend while a team from Loudoun County Public School support services came in to disinfect the locker room, shower room, equipment, and other athletic areas such as the weight room and the laundry room.

(Sept. 3, 2011) - In the Battle for a Better Cause game Friday night between Ashburn rivals Broad Run and Briar Woods with fans on both sides in white to help raise funds for former Spartan football player Ryan Diviney, it was fittingly Diviney's old team Broad Run, the team in white Friday, applying the whitewash to Briar Woods for a 14-0 non-district win.
Broad Run senior quarterbck Connor Jessop threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Jack Sistare with 1:10 left in the first half and then ran in a 10-yard score as the third quarter ended for the game's only scores.
Briar Woods caught a tough break in the third quarter when they had the Spartans stopped after a risky passing attempt on 4th-and-5 from BR's own 15 but a 15-yard penalty kept the drive alive and later Jessop would score to make it 14-0 at the end of the 90-yard march.

Fairfax (Sept. 2, 2011) - Oh Canada! Senior Stephen Trivieri, a travel ice hockey player who transferred to the Stone Bridge High School football program recently from Canada, made his Bulldog varsity debut Friday night with 8:35 left in a scoreless game at Robinson. 13 hard-nosed consecutive carries later by Trivieri and the Bulldogs were able to win the game, 3-0, on a Ben Lambourne 17-yard field goal with 37.1 seconds left.
Watching most of the night from the sidelines, Trivieri finally had his number called and behind the blocking of defensive bulldozer Jonathan Allen he plowed ahead for three yards from Stone Bridge's own 34. He then carried the ball again. And Again. And Again. And Again. And Again.
No tricks here as the Bulldogs, unable to generate much offense in their single wing running attack or spread passing attack under new quarterback Ryan Burns, went to a jumbo set that isn't even installed yet this season so basically the Bulldogs just lined up and ran the same play ... over ... and over .... and over ...

Volleyball: Stone Bridge Takes the First Ever Battle of Ashburn with Wins Over Briar Woods and Broad Run
Stone Bridge defeated Broad Run in three sets by scores of 25-21, 25-23, 25-16 and then defeated Briar Woods in three sets by scores of 25-11, 25-13, 25-16.
Broad Run, also opening the season under the return of varsity coach Ellen Roberts, finished the night 1-1 as the Spartans were able to beat Briar Woods in four sets, 26-24, 22-25, 25-21, 25-19.

(Sept. 1, 2011) - The girls volleyball season may only be two matches old for each Heritage High School and Leesburg rival Loudoun County but that won't stop tonight's Dulles District meeting from being a big match.
Host Loudoun County is the 4-time defending AA state champion and Heritage is coming back to the Dulles District from AAA where the Pride made the state quarterfinals last year. Before leaving the Dulles for a 2-year visit to the Cedar Run District, Heritage and Loudoun County had a spirited rivalry with high-quality volleyball on the court and amazing fan support off the court. Expect no less tonight when they get underway around 7 p.m.

The Raiders extended their match winning streak to 26 with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-17) sweep over Loudoun Valley. Golf: Loudoun Junior Golf Association Hands Out Awards
(Sept. 1, 2011) - The Loudoun Junior Golf Association recently held their season-ending awards banquet to celebrate another successful summer program.
In the Masters Division, Richard Bourdreau took home first in the Congressional Flight of the Champions Claret Cup at Raspberry Falls on July 31 with Erik Dulik runner-up. Both shot 76. Shooting 82 for third was Jake Wohlgemuth.
In the Merion Flight, Jordan Schreder shot 79 for first with Thomas Truluck at 80 for second. Third place went to Daniel Friend at 84.
At the Champions Cup, Nick Vazzana won the long drive contest and Kirby Struhar and Austin Brundage were closest to the pin.

Youth Sports - Gymnastics: NVGA to Open Facility in Ashburn
(Sept. 1, 2011) - NVGA Gymnastics is opening a new 10,000-square foot facility in Ashburn in October. The new gym will be located just off of Loudoun County Parkway on Cape Court. The gym will carry recreational classes and a boys and girls Team program. Cheer tumbling will also be offered as well as trampoline classes. For more info call 703-430-5434.

Youth Sports - Boys Basketball: LTT Swarm to Hold Tryouts for 7th Graders
(Sept. 1, 2011) The Loudoun Triple Threat (LTT) Swarm 7th grade boys basketball team will hold tryouts at the Douglass Community Center in Leesburg on Sunday Sept. 18 and and Sunday Sept. 25 from 6 to 7 p.m.
The tryouts are for boys who are currently in 7th grade. Douglass Community Center is located at 407 E. Market St, Leesburg, VA. For more information, please contact Steve Coffman at hawkeye114@verizon.net.
