Girls Basketball: Loudoun County Senior Kelly Maxey to Play at D3 Hollins University Next Year

(Dec. 17, 2011) - Loudoun County High School senior girls basketball player Kelly Maxey has committed to continue her career at NCAA Division III Hollins University in Roanoke.

Maxey is a transfer from Rogue River High School in Oregon where she was a 3-year player and she has also played for the AAU club Mid Valley Monarchs. She is currently 70 points shy from scoring 1,000 for her career.

Volleyball: Dominion Grad Ally Reed is Named Hollins Student Athlete of the Week

(Sept. 7, 2011) - Dominion High School grad Ally Reed has been named the Hollins University Student Athlete of the Week for Aug. 29 after leading the volleyball team with 40 kills, 67 digs and nine service aces on the team's opening weekend.

Reed, Hollins Class of 2013, is majoring in international studies at the Roanoke school.

Reed finished last season with a team-high 226 kills in 25 matches (2.54 kills per set average). She was second the team with 39 service aces and she led the NCAA Division III team with 361 digs.

Hollins is a women's only institution for undergraduate studies with an enrollment of 759. The school, founded in 1842, boasts an average class size of 13.

Volleyball: Dominion Grad Reed Transfers to Hollins, Making an Impact in Community with Gulf Fundraisers

(Aug. 2, 2010) - Allyson Reed, a 2008 Dominion High School graduate and walk-on volleyball player at Auburn University, has transferred to Hollins University and accepted an offer to play on the volleyball team.

Hollins, located in Roanoke, Va., is a first-year program at the Division III level. The team will play a provisional season in 2010-11 and then become a competing member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) the following season.

Hollins head coach Jason Kozak, is a former assistant at the University of Virginia.

At 5'10", Reed was a defensive specialist while at Auburn University and an outside hitter at Dominion High School and on her club teams at NVVA and Virginia Elite where she made an appearance at the Junior Olympic Nationals competition in 2007.

Reed is also an active member in her community. This summer she organized a fundraiser sand volleyball tournament to aid in the clean-up of mammals and marine life affected by the oil spill in the Gulf. The tournament raised nearly $1,500. Reed plans to apply for 501.3c status for her organization and hopes to expand her tournaments across the area in the coming year. The website can be found at coast2coastvolleyball.org.
