College Corner: Dominion Grad Allyson Reed is a Hitting Machine for D3 Hollins University

(Sept 19, 2012) - Dominion High School grad Allyson (Ally) Reed, a senior at NCAA Division III Hollins University in the ODAC, has been swinging away and racking up the kills for her team.  

At the 2012 Hollins Invitational on Sept. 8 Hollins beat Gettysburg with the help of Ally's 17 kills, 5 digs, a pair of blocks and 3 service aces. Hollins fell in the finals against Virginia Intermont College but Ally put up some very impressive numbers with 10 kills and 25 digs.  Ally's major is International Studies and with graduation not to far away we wish Ally the best of luck in everything she does.

Volleyball: Dominion Grad Reed Transfers to Hollins, Making an Impact in Community with Gulf Fundraisers

(Aug. 2, 2010) - Allyson Reed, a 2008 Dominion High School graduate and walk-on volleyball player at Auburn University, has transferred to Hollins University and accepted an offer to play on the volleyball team.

Hollins, located in Roanoke, Va., is a first-year program at the Division III level. The team will play a provisional season in 2010-11 and then become a competing member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) the following season.

Hollins head coach Jason Kozak, is a former assistant at the University of Virginia.

At 5'10", Reed was a defensive specialist while at Auburn University and an outside hitter at Dominion High School and on her club teams at NVVA and Virginia Elite where she made an appearance at the Junior Olympic Nationals competition in 2007.

Reed is also an active member in her community. This summer she organized a fundraiser sand volleyball tournament to aid in the clean-up of mammals and marine life affected by the oil spill in the Gulf. The tournament raised nearly $1,500. Reed plans to apply for 501.3c status for her organization and hopes to expand her tournaments across the area in the coming year. The website can be found at coast2coastvolleyball.org.
