Girls Volleyball: Heritage JR Sydney Busa Verbally Commits to Play at Elon University

Leesburg (Oct. 16, 2012) - Heritage High School junior Sydney Busa has verbally committed to play at NCAA Division I Elon University in North Carolina starting in 2014-15.

Busa was first team all-Dulles District last year as a sophomore as well as second team All-Region II. As a freshman she was all-Cedar Run District second team .

(March 23, 2012) - Stone Bridge High School celebrated on Wednesday the college choices of eight senior football players. Those honored included: Zach Barney (Washington and Lee), Scott Hinkle (Franklin & Marshall), Stan Johnson (UVA-Wise), Ben Lambourne (Hampden-Sydney), Sean McCoy (Elon), Aaron Palmer (Waynesburg), Stephen Trivieri (Queen's University - Canada), and Mike Tompkins (William & Mary).

Girls Soccer: Potomac Falls Keeper Kate Murphy Signs with NCAA Division I Elon

 

Sterling (Feb. 11, 2011) - Potomac Falls High School senior Kate Murphy signed a National Letter of Intent last week to play Division I women's soccer at Elon University.

Murphy has been the full-time starter for the Panthers in goal since joining the varsity as a freshman in spring 2008. In her time, the team has notched three trips to the Dulles District semifinals, and she has set a school record for best Goals-Against-Average for a season, a 1.06 and she has the single-game record for saves; an incredible 25 saves.

Besides being an outstanding athlete, Murphy is a star in the classroom, posting a stellar 4.3 GPA and earning membership in the National Honor Society. She has been named an Elon Presidential Scholar and earned an academic scholarship, as well as athletic scholarship to attend the North Carolina school.

In addition to her time as a Panther soccer goalie, Murphy has spent time in the net for a nationally-ranked U18 travel team know as Loudoun U18/Loudoun Legends. She also spent three years playing on the Virginia State Olympic Development Program team as a high school student.

Murphy will enroll at Elon University in August 2011 where she plans on majoring in political science or journalism.

Girls Soccer: Potomac Falls Keeper Kate Murphy Commits to Play at NCAA Division I Elon

(Jan. 28, 2011) - Potomac Falls High School senior keeper Kate Murphy has committed to play next year at NCAA Division I Elon.

Murphy has been the starting keeper for the Panthers since her freshman year. She expects to officially sign on Feb. 2. Since 2008 Murphy has played for the Loudoun 91Red coached by Randy May. A 4.09 student, Murphy will be attending Elon on academic as well as athletic scholarships.

Last spring Elon advanced to the semifinals of the Southern Conference tournament and closed the books on a successful 2010 season as the Phoenix finished the year with a 12-8-1 mark, including a 6-5 record in league play, marking the first time the team has won 12 games and finished with a winning record in league play in back-to-back seasons since joining NCAA Division I.

Elon’s 12 wins set the school record for victories over NCAA Division I opponents, while the program’s RPI of 131 out of 322 teams has risen over 100 spots over the past three seasons under head coach Chris Neal. Neal also led Elon to its first-ever win at Samford earlier this season, marking the first time Samford has lost a conference game at home since joining the league in 2008.
